Husband won't admit he has a hearing problem

My DH is 72, and lately seems quite hard of hearing. Almost everything I say meets with a "what?" and he complains that I am talking quietly, refusing to admit that he has a hearing problem.
I understand that he's freaked out at the idea of needing hearing aids, although I understand that today they are almost invisible.
He refuses to get his hearing checked and to even consider hearing aids.
Anyone been through this and can share what helped?
Thanks!

Philippa60 Is he going to do anything about it though?

I thought refusing to admit their hearing was failing and do something about it was a genetic characteristic in all men.

We had a dear friend who was hard of hearing and suggested he have a hearing aid. He said everyone would see it, so I old him "Well Mr. Williams you've been wearing spectacles for all the years I've known you, so everyone knows you need help with your eyes" Not long after I noticed he'd taken heed.!!!!

Theexwife, yes, he's said he will make an appointment for a hearing test, but he's also told me to stop nagging him about it. Wonder how long it will take him to arrange it....

I thought at first it was selective hearing but then realised he couldn’t hear and I stopped responding to his eh, what, pardons, he soon realised himself he had a hearing problem and eventually he went to see about it (nothing wrong with his sight) 🤣and found he was indeed hard of hearing, he soon remedied this with a hearing aid. What a joy - harmony soon returned - good luck

I solved the problem by us both going for hearing tests. I didn’t really need aids but we both had them. It’s great as we do not need the TV up so loud.
I don't understand why people won’t wear hearing aids when they are happy to wear glasses.

When DH saw the GP she laughed and said "It's probably selective hearing" without doing or suggesting extra tests and without asking about his working history.
That satisfied DH and he came home and said the GP said there was nothing wrong with him. A friend who visited yesterday had a chat with him about it and hd actually listened to him and took note.
