Living together affecting divorce

My OH ex thought she could make financial claim on my property until I produced a tenancy agreement stating that he was living in my property as a tenant - nothing more, nothing less. He didn't have to move out and as I travelled much of that time I was hardly there anyway.

If you do an internet search for something such as “ Will living with a new partner affect my divorce?” the search results include lots of websites giving helpful information. I’ve no experience of your situation but it seems that moving in with your new partner can definitely affect any financial settlement as part of his divorce.

As you have kept up your own house it might be a good idea to move back there - but do take legal advice before you get even more caught up in a potentially difficult situation, especially as he and his wife are already disputing the finances. I think I’d stay well clear until it’s all resolved.

I am divorced. I was not earning at that time, as such, just the basic pay for keeping his books in order. He left me for a woman, who part-owned a business. They bought a house and moved in together. I think that had some part to play in my generous divorce settlement.
I would advise you not to move in with him just yet. Wait till his Decree Absolute comes through.

Check with your own lawyer.

It shouldn’t make any difference if your finances are separate but if it enables the final settlement to be made more quickly it’s best if you’re not there.
