Why is this woman allowed to lecture us on Thought for the Day? She is so damned patronising and her only qualifications appears to be that she is married to a vicar. Her voice makes me want to scream.

whenim64 Tue 24-Jul-12 19:06:33

jeni it was addressed to Jingle but you are also rather wicked grin

Anagram Tue 24-Jul-12 19:03:39

No, merlot! grin She's not particularly wrinkly (yet). And her 'subject' is more good old fashioned family values rather than the Middle East.

Nonu Tue 24-Jul-12 18:59:46

Oh Carol , I wondered what become of u , u were one of the few who welcomed me , u probably don"t remember but heyho. I have said my fourpenneth now so will merrily carry on . sunshine and aren"t we getting a lot of it now

Greatnan Tue 24-Jul-12 18:59:30

Oh dear, jingle, I really thought you would take my light hearted banter as just that.

merlotgran Tue 24-Jul-12 18:59:23

I don't think I know Anne Atkins either. Is she the very wrinkly one who goes on Question Time and talks a lot about the middle east?

Anagram Tue 24-Jul-12 18:56:55

You can read a lot of her earnest sermons articles online, dorsetpennt - just Google her!

dorsetpennt Tue 24-Jul-12 18:52:48

Never heard of her and I'm a confirmed Radio 4 fan - must listen to her then I can join in with the rant. smile

jeni Tue 24-Jul-12 18:52:46

when whose wicked?

whenim64 Tue 24-Jul-12 18:51:54

I'm old nonu. I changed my name from Carol a while back. did a *Jingle, as it's become known

I joined in May 2011 and have got very fond of Gransnet smile

Nonu Tue 24-Jul-12 18:47:10

I am a relative newcomer like you whenim64 , it has been quite a steep learning curve , not at all what I expected . However , I have not let it deter me and fully intend to carry on , at least when I am not on holiday or get bored with it . So LOL as I like to do ! shock

whenim64 Tue 24-Jul-12 18:45:36

No, stand there - I've got you in front of me to take the bullets....come back! grin

merlotgran Tue 24-Jul-12 18:43:12

I agree, whenim, If someone upsets me on here (it hasn't happened yet but there's always a first time), I'll take it on the chin. As Mrs. Merton used to say, 'Let's have a heated debate' . It's no use lighting the touch paper then feeling sorry for yourself if all hell breaks lose. Do I duck now? grin

nightowl Tue 24-Jul-12 18:41:43

Come on in soop there's room for a few more. It's a shame it's so blinkin' hot! smile

whenim64 Tue 24-Jul-12 18:41:25

grin wicked woman girl x

jeni Tue 24-Jul-12 18:41:20

I would be worried if jingle wasn't giving as good as she gets! I would think there was something seriously wrong with her!
GN would not be the same without jing v bags vans gram v me!

JO4 Tue 24-Jul-12 18:40:40

On the Book Club thread.

JO4 Tue 24-Jul-12 18:40:25

I'm going out in the garden with Alexander the Great.

And thank you to whoever it was suggested the book Fire from Heaven. smile

JO4 Tue 24-Jul-12 18:38:21

And the comment from Greatnan - calling me 'woman' was totally out of order! And thank you Alison for the back-up there.

whenim64 Tue 24-Jul-12 18:37:33

Who said you're stirring Jingle? certainly not me. smile

soop Tue 24-Jul-12 18:37:27

nightowl May I join you, please?

whenim64 Tue 24-Jul-12 18:35:43

I don't define healthy debate as being mean to each other, either nonu. No right thinking person hijacks a thread for such a purpose.

I understood the comments made about religiacs referred to the subject of this thread, not another Gransnetter.

It's frustrating to see good discussions railroaded by unfair accusations, and even more frustrating to be patronised when someone justifiably asks for a ceasefire, only to be told they want cosy group hugs. Having robust discussions and remaining friendly aren't mutually exclusive.

I don't want to be rescued or told off for having interesting conversations with people who might have a different view from mine. It's becoming so predictable, it's a bore (my turn to duck now) grin

JO4 Tue 24-Jul-12 18:33:35

sorry. 'off' not 'of' there

nightowl Tue 24-Jul-12 18:33:05

I'm under the duvet now la la la la laaaa grin

JO4 Tue 24-Jul-12 18:32:28

Hmm. Not totally sure I agree with that first paragraph nightowl.

And I really hate when posters pass of my true opinions as "stirring" just because I often seem to be out of step with army.

Nonu Tue 24-Jul-12 18:31:01

I certainly do not run
