Who is God?

Dear friends,
This is the article which I mentioned on the Spiritual page yesterday.
Please keep an open mind while reading it, and remember that we should always respect another persons beliefs, even if you don't agree with them!

We all have our own views on such a sensitive subject as "Religion"!

Who is God?

Well folks, this is my idea on God!
I hope it does not offend anyone, but it may give something to think on!
I think that God, as we are taught, is a Spirit, We have been led to believe in God as a person, whom we take after ; - This makes it easier to explain, as people in general cannot accept a more ethereal being that is not bound by time or space,.
God is the Spirit of life; it runs through all living things. Therefore we are part of God and the God Spirit is part of us!
(I trust that this does not sound like blasphemy to anybody. These are my own thoughts expressed here!)
Life is sacred, and we all have free will. We have a moral code, laid down by wise leaders over many thousands of years.
Ideally, we use our conscience to behave and live by that moral code.
I believe in a power, much stronger than we can imagine, whose strength we can call upon to strengthen and help us when we ask. This is always available to all, no matter whether you have a faith or not, Of course, as with all things, if you have faith, you are a more positive person which uses your stronger inner strength!
I call that powerful Spirit GOD!
Many religions recognise God in different ways, and I think that each of us has their own pathway to tread. We should not force our own thoughts upon other people.
I am proud to be a Christian, but I respect other points of view!
Jesus is widely recognised as a great Teacher in other religions and respected as such.
As for natural disasters, I have no answer. For crimes of war, brutality, injustice, etc. I bring in the argument of "Free Will" again!
, This does not address all of the points raised, i.e., sickness, but this again is a natural phenomena caused by environmental and other conditions, some of which are man made! - Free will again!
Nature has a way of protecting itself, which is not always in our best interests!!
Sorry if I've gone on a bit with my ramblings. It may provoke a bigger discussion!

" if people posted under their real names" shock

That might be alright for Greatnan living safely tucked away somewhere in the French mountains. But I've got neighbours!

Oh, there's always an element of fun Anagram, even on the religion threads, where most of it is meant quite seriously.

I certainly don't mean when people get hurt though.

janeainsworth Wed 29-Aug-12 21:36:47

I agree with John Lennon.
'All you need is Love'.
I cannot help wondering if the sniping and bickering might be less, if people posted under their real names.

Fun? confused

nanaej Wed 29-Aug-12 21:26:12

Not yours JO4 your posts do not suggest someone who is insecure! just mischievious and enjoying the fun grin

I have noticed though that there are 'tensions' and what I would call sniping by some GNs, on different threads, but between the same posters suggesting a more personal element. I have not felt I have been involved ..just an observation on others' style of posting I suppose!

In my experience some people can become over sensitive when they do not feel very confident. I was using my off forum experience and applying it to what I have observed here.

Nanaej " individuals' personal insecurities"

Codswallop.

Lilygran Wed 29-Aug-12 20:31:11

Nanaej second attempt! Some people might call it robust debate ( when we stick to the subject and don't get personal).

Jeni according to Wikipedia, the source and fount of all knowledge, it's Krishna who rides the juggernaut

nanaej Wed 29-Aug-12 20:21:23

I believe man constructed god/s to explain the inexplicable & to create power bases. I do not believe in god/s.

I believe that as a member of the human race I should do nothing that harms other humans and should help /protect others in need. I also believe I have a responsibility to minimise harm to the natural resources of the world for future humans to enjoy.

I have lived & continue to live, my life within a loving family community and a community of good friends who are like minded. I am very fortunate.

The bickering on this thread is indicative of individuals' personal insecurities and shows how 'belief' can create tension, division and ultimately war.

jeni Wed 29-Aug-12 19:25:25

lilyand what is his carriage called?

JO4 Wed 29-Aug-12 19:10:17

hmm

annodomini Wed 29-Aug-12 19:04:35

Mud slinging is one step towards the deployment of the longbow, the musket or the IED.

Greatnan Wed 29-Aug-12 18:40:25

Anno, it was all going very well until 09.28.44 when jingle accused somebody of being unfair.
At 10.50.47 Alison said that some Gransnetters go around saying how clever/good/brilliant they are but Christians tend not to do that. That was when the faeces hit the fan. Surprise, surprise.

annodomini Wed 29-Aug-12 18:18:06

I've been trying to make sense of this thread and my conclusion is that it's hardly surprising that so much strife has been caused by religion and its adherents.

Lilygran Wed 29-Aug-12 18:16:13

Jeni Ganesh is the god represented as an elephant

JO4 Wed 29-Aug-12 18:05:15

You still there Gramps? smile

JO4 Wed 29-Aug-12 18:04:29

JO4 Wed 29-Aug-12 18:04:17

jeni don't you start.

JO4 Wed 29-Aug-12 18:03:56

I don't know if there is anyone I haven't replied to. It's got too hard to sort out who said what to who. hmm

jeni Wed 29-Aug-12 18:03:03

absent isn't there already an elephant god? Juggernaut or or something?

JO4 Wed 29-Aug-12 18:01:38

Greatnan I would NOT shout 'offensive' if you said that to me.

absentgrana Wed 29-Aug-12 18:00:00

Just for the record Greatnan is an adult. That was personal and rather rude.

JO4 Wed 29-Aug-12 18:00:00

absent no. Gave it up a while back.

absentgrana Wed 29-Aug-12 17:58:20

No, it's not personal – I am merely pointing out that you have posted a hypocritical comment that contradicts your previous comments. I just happen to be a great fan of Emile Zola – but this discussion is pretty small potatoes compared with the Dreyfuss affair.
