but gay men will be able to.

Why? confused

In some cases it is true - those who have been brainwashed into thinking that any kind of sex is dirty and sinful and to be avoided, even between married couples unless it is for procreation, can become so obsessed with staying "pure" and not having sex that they look for "the temptation to sin" everywhere.

And priests who have no legitimate object for their sexual affections can become fixated on the innocence of children as an attraction.

'religious people do obsess over sex and its diversions...' - that's a bit of a sweeping statement, Stansgran!

Stansgran Tue 08-Jan-13 12:06:20

Did anyone read Caitlin Moran about Ripper Street saying she really had had enough of prostitutes being abused and gutted for the benefit (I felt she implied) of the sick mentality of BBC hierarchy. This is I realise off the point entirely but religious people do obsess over sex and its diversions and television seems to indulge.

[I agree] emoticon. moon

Nelliemoser Mon 07-Jan-13 22:41:24

I am so glad is not just me who feels like this! grin

petallus Mon 07-Jan-13 17:03:59

I usually stick my fingers in my ears and close my eyes when a graphic sex scene comes on the tv. Then I take little peeps until it is over.

After all, you wouldn't normally watch other people at it.

I also get tense in case my adult GS, who lives with me, walks in the room when a sex scene is on.

Ella46 Mon 07-Jan-13 16:59:05

I just wish they didn't make so much noise, graphic sound effects make me feel sick!

Greatnan Mon 07-Jan-13 16:08:39

I find sex scenes on film or TV, or in books, simply boring, but I have no specific objection to depictions of gay sex - surely that is just prejudice?

Nelliemoser Mon 07-Jan-13 14:29:37

Getting a bit off topic here but,.. be it gay or straight, I do not particularly want to see any explicit sexual relations on television or anywhere else in public. I will go with a plain hug or kiss, we don't need any more to get the message. Most of the stuff on television is uneccessarily graphic and very often totally irrevelvant to the story line. It's just put in to spice up the story.

I'm doing the prude act again. grin

Back to the topic of C of E's moral fudge up. Is there not one vicar out there on gransnet who can understand and explain it? confused

.

celebgran Mon 07-Jan-13 11:26:03

nfk dumpling how much better it would be if it were private!

I for one do not want to see gay men kissing or women on my tv screen, sorry if that makes me politically incorrect!!

As for David Cameron andhis obession with making gay marriages legal I would prefer that he could sort out the mess of n h s am still waiting for my mole to be removed nearly 3 months now!!

Mishap Mon 07-Jan-13 10:52:13

It is pitiful that the C of E cannot see how ludicrous their stance on homosexuality is - it's like saying "It's OK to be female/black/disbled (pick something for yourself!) as long as you "repent" of so being and do not behave as if you are!! Totally barmy!

I would love to know how they will "police" this!

NfkDumpling Sun 06-Jan-13 22:31:21

Wouldn't it be easier if they simply judged people on their character and ignored their sexuality completely? (After all sexual orientation between consulting adults should be private.).

jO5 Sun 06-Jan-13 22:20:00

They definitely don't know. They are in a right pickle. hmm

Ana Sun 06-Jan-13 22:12:49

Well, I was just wondering how they'd explain their reasoning in such cases...
Would it depend upon the birth gender determination or the chosen one? confused

Lilygran Sun 06-Jan-13 22:12:01

Granny23, I think you may have found the answer grin!

jO5 Sun 06-Jan-13 21:44:15

wink

jO5 Sun 06-Jan-13 21:43:59

Ana FGS leave transgender people out of it! It's complicated enough as it is! hmm

jO5 Sun 06-Jan-13 21:43:08

Nelliemoser I think the current stance the C of E takes is that it sympathises, and welcomes in it's congregation - and now ministry, anyone who is gay. However, they still judge homosexuality to be it sinful. I think the hierarchy would tolerate a church member practising it, but bishops have to be above "sin".

That is not my view. Just how I think the church sees it. From what I can gather. confused

Nelliemoser Sun 06-Jan-13 21:28:00

celebgran I would like to think that if a child of mine was gay my biggest worry would be the possibility of what they may suffer from the prejudices of others.

Is there no one out there who can enlighten me about the standard C of E point of view on the issues I raised in my post late on Saturday night.

I genuinely want to know how their doctrine sees this issue.

NfkDumpling Sun 06-Jan-13 20:45:04

Granny23 you've cracked it! Do write to that synoddy thing. If you do you'd better sign it Grandad23 then they'll take you seriously.

Wheniwasyourage Sun 06-Jan-13 19:31:30

Granny23 gringrin

Ana Sun 06-Jan-13 14:12:15

What about transgender people? confused

Granny23 Sun 06-Jan-13 13:52:15

Maybe if women sincerely repent that they are women and promise not to behave like women in the future they can be elevated to a Bishopric? hmm

Why does Monty Python come to mind?

soop Sun 06-Jan-13 13:48:05

grin

jO5 Sun 06-Jan-13 13:41:18

I will stop thinking about this now.
