So he doesn't go very often. Does it matter? Would it be better if he was a hypocrite and pretended it was more important to him?

I'm not being anti-Royalist here. I'm genuinely interested in what others think.

Don't know the Catechism (not a Presbyterian thing) but it's in the Creed.

j07 Wed 30-Jan-13 22:16:43

What I said there could be very profound. When you think about it. shock

j07 Wed 30-Jan-13 22:16:07

Yeah, there was that as well. grin

And the dove fluttering down when John the Baptist baptised Jesus.

he It's all over the place.

j07 Wed 30-Jan-13 22:14:43

the Catechism! that's it!

annodomini Wed 30-Jan-13 22:14:39

Wasn't it the thing that inspired the disciples to speak in tongues at pentecost?

j07 Wed 30-Jan-13 22:12:30

"Where did we get the idea of the Holy Ghost (Spirit) from?" (quoting jeni)

It's in the "I believe.........." thingie. (not the song)

j07 Wed 30-Jan-13 22:06:43

Good one. grin

Antidisestablishmentarianism is the longest word in the English language.

I don't know why I said that. It just came to me.

Jeni
Just had a look at what St Mary's in Exile is doing now. They are still going strong, and i think they are the church for you.

There's just the small problem of distance..........

PC has been having lots of confidentlal meetings with government ministers and they won't tell us what he's been talking about.
There is a lot of concern that he is trying to influence ministers e.g. about promoting so called "alternative medicine" - keeping homeopathic hospitals open etc. Hope qe2 outlives him to be honest.

jeni Wed 16-Jan-13 21:52:22

The only references I can find are the baptism and Pentecost!

jeni Wed 16-Jan-13 21:51:30

Actually Jing, I've just thought! Where did we get the idea of the Holy Ghost (Spirit) from?

jeni Wed 16-Jan-13 21:48:15

Only defined by Nicea I think

j07 Wed 16-Jan-13 21:42:06

Same God - the Three in One. He didn't change that bit.

jeni Wed 16-Jan-13 21:40:10

Oh!
Unless the spirit is vodka?

jeni Wed 16-Jan-13 21:39:12

No! Humanists don't seem to believe in God
Quakers, never understood them? Perhaps I should research.
But the thought of sitting in silence til 'moved by the spirit?'

Joan Wed 16-Jan-13 21:33:43

Humanism?
Quakers?

The best local churches are the ones that buck the system. We had a catholic church in South Brisbane where the priest, Peter Kennedy, just went his own way, welcoming everyone whatever their history, sexual orientation, lifestyle etc. He did loads of social work, helping the homeless, providing food and such like. Here's a precis of the story by wikipedia:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Kennedy_(priest)

and a more in depth report here:

stmaryssouthbrisbane.com/2012/08/troublesome-priest/

He got booted out of his parish, but the Labour Party gave him free use of one large meeting room in their party building, and his parish grew from there.
The official St Mary's church plods on with a small traditional congregation.

jing although I am C of E I wouldn't count on it lasting. It's shooting itself in the foot at the moment. And so are the RC s.
I don't like the 'happy clappy' group so? Any suggestions?

absent Wed 16-Jan-13 20:52:19

Not the established Church of England jings. Henry VIII and all that?

j07 Wed 16-Jan-13 20:41:09

Don't hold your breath absent. It's lasted 2013 years!

absent Wed 16-Jan-13 20:32:57

HM the Q is likely to last for quite a bit longer, given family history and if Phil the Greek hangs on in there. Charles may be in his sixties but he is panting for his turn, so by the time William is looking at a possible coronation – when most if not all of us will probably be long gone – things may be quite lot different. Apart from anything else, look at what the Church of England is doing to destroy itself – so an established church may have been totally obliterated long before then. Let's hope so.

On her recent trip to India she spent time in a posh yogic retreat. Who's a thunk it?

Jess wrote "I predict a showdown with Kate though. Bet she is not going to want to use homeopathy instead of conventional medicine for her baby. Bring on those vaccines Kate.Or go through any yogic detox rituals to prepare for the birth. Or let Camilla to chant in the corner during her labour "

Surely Camilla's more likely to be smoking and swearing in the corner of the delivery suite?
