Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.

And why would this move you away from the Bible anyway - assuming that you had any interest in it? As far as I'm aware, this particular psalm is recording persecution, not advocating it!

Lovely thought, feetlebaum. Perhaps not quite in the spirit of the forum?

durhamjen Sun 27-Apr-14 22:58:56

Is that why there aren't so many sparrows these days, susieb, he's too busy watching you?

feetlebaum Sun 27-Apr-14 22:55:43

Psalm 137 Verse 9 : "Happy is the one who seizes your infants
and dashes them against the rocks."

Moves me... away from it!

susieb755 Sun 27-Apr-14 22:46:31

His eye is on the sparrow, and I know he watches me.

Lord I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof but only say the word and my soul shall be healed

My father's favourite was from Paul's letter to Timothy.

Take a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities.

Apologies for being slightly irreverent, but my mothers friend, a devout Christian sent this one to the plumber ..just the bible reference
Matthew 11.3

Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?

"But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart".

I think of this simple young girl who accepted with faith the burden to be placed on her.

And they shall beat their swords into plowshares and their hooks into pruning tools.
The lion shall lay down withe lamb
Nation shall speak peace unto nation
And they shall not make war any more.

Haven't looked it up, so that's a rough quote from Isaiah

Its so very nice to read these Bible phrases, there was one that I had not heard before.

A good reminder of GODS love for us x

Any more?

Happy are those who have not seen but yet believe.

I also love this one, and it is quite apt for Gransnet smile:

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

For two are better than one,
because they have a good return for their labor:
If either of them falls down,
one can help the other up.
But pity anyone who falls
and has no one to help them up.

I am always moved by Job's lamentations, starting 'Let the day perish wherein I was born, and the night in which it was said, There is a man child conceived. Let that day be darkness; let not God regard it from above, neither let the light shine upon it .....' and so on.

When I read it all I don't know whether to laugh or cry.
