PS and completely off topic, doesn't 'tiresomeness' look odd written down?
Soops kitchen, a place of reflection, refuge and at times revelry.
What is the reason for our existence?
PS and completely off topic, doesn't 'tiresomeness' look odd written down?
That's the laughable bit Absent
Naughty!
Anya If it's mythical, why would it offend you (apart from the repetitive tiresomeness)? Laughable? – tee hee.
Btw and not relevant, but I'd really not mind a short match-up with this corrupting Satan chap, but I have no longing for a future paradise.
There is no divine plan. I can accept that some people have a need for a god, but what I find offensive, and laughable, are those who cansider non believers to have been corrupted by the devil and will be denied a chance of some mythical future paradise.
Right now the thread that follows this one on the Active list – Why are we here? – is Relocation. I love entropy.
With the passing years, there’ll come a time,
You couldn’t have dreamt of while in your prime.
When your zest for life goes into reverse,
And you just know that things will get worse.
Old age wears you down and bends your back.
What was once taut, now becomes slack.
You find life’s rewards no longer enthral,
And your normal pace is down to a crawl.
Your respect for authority is just about nil.
You’ve seen them too often with their hands in the till.
You don’t have anyone, now, to impress,
So comfort is all, when you get up to dress.
If you were lucky enough to have had a good life.
You’ll know it was because you had a good wife.
But, as you wait to pass through death’s dark door.
You find yourself wondering. What was it all for?
Oh my! what an amazing lot you are! Full of varying thoughts and beliefs or even non belief. It is good that these subjects stimulate us to think of deeper things than the cost of living or living in fear of devastating events that happen on varying scales. Over a period of fifty five years I have studied, listened, questioned, experienced various religions and fields of thought and enquiry. With what I have read, conversations I have been involved in, experiences of life after death and healing, Peace movement etc. I believe that we are a creation of God, God being an energy of Love; we are part of Him/Her; so God could be either, or part of both. So we are spiritual beings who embark upon a journey to other sphere's, planets, constellations. The purpose is experience, which feeds back to God, the reason, we, as a species do dreadful things to others, and by others, I mean, as well as humans, to the animal kingdom and the planet herself; is because we have forgotten all this. We have forgotten we are inheritors of all the wonderful gifts that are there for us. Life on this planet, can be visited over and over again, until we get it somewhere near right. Whether you believe or not, doesn't matter, it is your intention that counts. Just honour each other as we would care to be honoured, and be joyful. Blessings to all. Margaret.
Do you speak in tongues rosewhite ? Serious question.
Galen, we are here because God decided to create Earth and have it filled with happy healthy people He could enjoy talking to and helping live and enjoyable happy life.
Satan got angry when God said to acknowledge Adam as being an amazing creation and from thenon he plotted how to spoil Adam and he did so by coercing Eve to disobey God - the result is the awful state of things at the moment.
God gave Satan 6,000 years - perhaps the same as God's 6 Days of Creation - to try ruling Earth to see what he could achieve but all Satan has ever wanted to do is corrupt all humans so they will deny God and thus be denied the chance to live on the newly cleansed Paradise Earth after Armageddon and when Jesus rules it.
If you had the gift of holy spirit you would be able to understand what I say.
I have no idea why we are here but I could write a long list of those who really shouldn't be.
I suppose each to their own, Elegran.
Freedom to do what? While we are alive, we won't be free to dispense with the laws of physics as unearthed by those unspiritual scientists and float on air instead of falling down the cliff.
And the "western powers that be" have not decreed that "the physical existence is it and there is no such thing as spiritual reality" They are busy finding out all about the incredible details of the universe, from subatomic structures to galaxies at the far edge of time, so they leave speculation about the metaphysical to those who prefer to look in rather than out.
samraj or Gavin How do we obtain absolute freedom and Divine existence?
Is it a case of keep being reincarnated in other lifetimes until we become pure and perfect? And what then? What do we do with the absolute freedom? Where will we be when we get it?
What about uncovering the impulse to absolute freedom. Divine existence.
Just because the western powers that be say that the physical existence is it and there is no such thing as spiritual reality, doesnt mean we should listen to that. Those male dominated powers and that scientific orientated philosophy are leading us to the edge of a cliff. We can wake up from this. I think that is our purpose.
:-)
Love, Gavin
Why not? ) Maybe one day humanity will answer to this question. But right now we simply have to live, be better and evolve in something even better)
I was raised RC and we were taught that God made us to know him, to love him and to serve him in this world and to be happy with him forever in the next."
When my dad was in the army they used to sing "we're here because we're here because, we're here because we're here." I'm sure you all know that song.
My guess is we haven't evolved enough to know the answer, best thing is to be as kind as possible and hope that there will be some sort of happy ending such as heaven.....
Yes, that makes sense to me.
We are here because "life" has an impulse to exist if it is possible. Each link in the chain, from single-celled organism to complex creatures who can philosophise over where we came from, fought to survive and to hand on life to its descendants.
Over the millions of generations, the form that life took altered and became more intricate and the alterations are still going on.
Why was the first single-celled organism here? The jury is still out on that, but the complex organisms are working on the answer.
Good heavens, it's Sunday morning, I should be having a lie-in, and I'm still only on my second coffee.
This thread may never have an end to it, because there is no solution. I am perfectly happy to accept that we are just here, and have to make the best of it while we are. It hasn't stopped me wondering 'why?' in the past, it's simply the conclusion I reached.
People have been accused of lack of imagination for not asking 'why?', even for lack of intelligence. I think some are simply more accepting and chilled about it. I don't believe there was a specific purpose behind our evolution, we are merely an accident of nature.
Galen - I am driven mad by that circuitous argument for our existence! No wonder I left the nun-run school at which I started my education. I kept asking the "wrong" questions and was insufficiently biddable!
The thread has been going on and off since 1 september.
I think that there does janerowena.
Some people dont feel settled not knowing. They feel that their life is a bit aimless.
Does there have to be a reason?
The chicken thinks the egg is here to make a chicken.
The egg thinks the chicken is here to lay eggs.
