Cliff Richard for example

Just reading an article on how Cliff Richard has spoken about the profound effect Christianity has had on his life. What I don't understand is how he thinks its ok to charge so much for his concerts when he has more than enough money. Many of his fans can't afford to go. It doesn't seem very Christian to me.

In contrast, my daughter and I have just booked seats to see Marty Wild, Eden Kane and Mike Berry in Skegness this coming May, at £26 each, 3 rows from the front.

trisher grin

Is he only 83?
I thought he'd be much older than that by now
(had he not left the building)

Gin Mon 03-Dec-18 18:55:54

If you go to a theatre in London good seats cost that. Even at our local theatre it is £60 plus.

Anniebach Mon 03-Dec-18 10:01:22

Realy Trisher ? Good for him at 83 ?

trisher Mon 03-Dec-18 09:59:04

I heard he's working in our chip shop (Elvis that is, not Sir Cliff)

Anja Mon 03-Dec-18 08:30:00

Sir Cliff that is.

Anja Mon 03-Dec-18 08:28:33

People actually pay to watch him perform? ?

MawBroon Mon 03-Dec-18 08:05:28

Sshh
<whispers>
Elvis has left the building.

Jalima1108 Sun 02-Dec-18 23:01:51

Jane10 and MargaretX I think there's something you both need to know about Elvis …..

MargaretX Sun 02-Dec-18 21:36:44

Oh Elvis. I'd pay more than that to see him!But like many on this thread I would have ot be paid to see Cliff Richard but feel how much he expects his tickets to cost is nothing to do with his charitable feelings and actions.

Jane10 Sun 02-Dec-18 21:23:23

I'd most likely find £100 if it was possible to see Elvis!

annep Sun 02-Dec-18 20:59:48

Lucky cousin Ellenvannin.

annep Sun 02-Dec-18 20:58:50

I haven't read that Fennel. interesting. I wonder is that where it came from. I wasn't a great Cliff fan ( or Elvis - we were alk supposed to favour obe or the other!). But I liked some songs. The Day I Met Marie is my favourite.

EllanVannin Sun 02-Dec-18 17:36:55

Yes Fennel, still remember the words. I think I bought it in 1956 and I remember my mum was going to put it in the bin ! Devil music she called it and didn't Cliff go on to record Devil woman ? hahahaha. I don't think mum was alive when he brought that out.

Fennel Sun 02-Dec-18 17:07:54

Ellan Livin' Doll
That was the first recording of Cliff's that I loved in my teenage years.
But nowadays the lyrics wouldn't go down well:
Take a look at her hair, it's real
If you don't believe what I say, just feel
I'm gonna lock her up in a trunk so no big hunk
Can steal her away from me'.
Reminds me of the passage in the OT where Jacob put Dinah in a box when he went to meet Esav, because she was so beautiful.

And if I seem abrupt sometimes its just because I'm usually rushing.

Anniebach Sun 02-Dec-18 17:04:45

Enjoy your evening annep x

annep Sun 02-Dec-18 16:58:49

I don't mind disagreeing/having a good debate Anniebach as long as no one is abusive. When I feel strongly about something its good to get another opinion. Everything is rarely black and white. I'm off to the cinema now to see a comedy - lighten up after all this ! I do hope you have a nice evening.?

EllanVannin Sun 02-Dec-18 16:58:11

My cousin was a " roadie " to many of the pop bands of the 60's and 70's. His last stint was with Jimi Hendrix as his tour manager.
Roger Daltrey is my favourite and I'd love him to sign his book for me. Cousin worked for the Who as well.

I still have Cliff's original recording of Livin' Doll, 7" vinyl.

You can’t overcharge in a market economy - supply and demand. It causes huge problems but governments do legislate in some cases to limit price increases .

Anniebach Sun 02-Dec-18 16:36:45

annep. I am sorry we disagreed but I realy don’t understand how you can accuse the man of overcharging, do we not have the right to decide what salary we are worth ,if no one will employ us then we can accept we ask too much, if his concert is not a sell out he will need to charge less or settle for less ticket sales

annep Sun 02-Dec-18 16:26:41

Anniebach I'm talking about overcharging. Is if ok to be a ticket tout then. Surely if people are willing to pay....
Anyway, I am glad to hear other views. And I shall think it through. Thats what I like about Gransnet - getting other viewpoints. Thanks everyone ?

annep Sun 02-Dec-18 16:21:00

I'm glad you salvaged some of it Suedonim ?. ( sorry we're off thread here everyone). If you haven't seen it his appearance on Isle of Wight is available on youtube. Cohen is a special person.
