Yes I have never been baptised because my parents wanted me to make that choice myself. Its good to know I am going to hell. Although it sounds preferable anyway.

What happens to truly evil people when die?
(230 Posts)My brother in law died last night.
A truly evil man.
Before my mum passed away she told me that he would have to stand before the Almighty and answer for all the things he had
done.
Things so terrible I can't say them.
I believe in a loving and forgiving God, so I'm having some trouble with what she said.
Any advice would be welcome please
What about babies who die before they are baptised into the Christian faith DiscoDancer? Or young children whose parents haven’t bothered for whatever reason to have them baptised? Do you believe that they have no place in heaven because they don’t yet know what Christianity is? Years ago they were buried in an unconsecrated part of the churchyard. Your Christian faith seems to deny eternal life to all who don’t ‘follow Jesus’. It’s not the same Christian faith as mine. I wonder if perhaps you are not an Anglican, Catholic or Methodist but a member of some other ’sect’, for want of a better word because the way you write and what you say doesn’t chime with mainstream Christianity.
I wouldn't risk going against a very oppressive society to declare myself a Christian.
Not everyone has the freedoms we take for granted.

*Luckygirl3*. No one is born a Christian. You may be born to parents who are Christians, but you still have to choose for yourself.
I didn't say they were! - I said they were born into a Christian, Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist or pagan society
Clearly, whatever society you are born into you do have choices, some more limited than others depending on levels of education and repression.

They die, like you and me, one day. Like all the good people.
I only believe in legagy by good example, with oru family and friends, and strangers too.
The answer is no one knows what happens when we die. Good or evil. Some of us have faith and belief some don’t but no one knows.

Jesus died for ALL people. God is a God of love and forgiveness. He wants to redeem and make whole all of mankind. He is not a legalistic God. We have to leave the detail to his loving kindness as none of us know for sure.
It is quite a challenge to find evidence of that goodness in a world that is entirely predicated on survival of the fittest rather than survival of the kindest; and whose basis lies in kill or be killed.
We are part of nature, which is very much "red in tooth and claw."
I find it entirely impossible to believe in a good god whose decisions about the fate of us humans rests on such petty considerations as to whether we happen to be born into a Christian, Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist or pagan society. The one true path of Christianity (or any other religion) was a means of social control, usually by men, and has been the source of endless bloodshed.
I prefer to look at the essence of so many religions, which is kindness, and try to free it from the corruption of generations.
The literal interpretation of biblical or other religious texts has caused untold unnecessary misery.
Just be kind to those around you - that is all that matters.

What happens to truly evil people when die? ---- the same as for every other once living creature on this earth. The body breaks down into molecules which eventually get incorporated back into the planet. Nothing more nothing less.
Thank goodness somebody’s got it! That’s what happens to everybody, whether good or evil. All the rest is speculation, imagination, or superstition.

Don’t you think that anyone who follows another faith than Christianity can go to heaven DD? Jews, Moslems? Do you think God denies them everlasting life? I’m a Christian but I don’t think along those lines.
No, we’re told the only way to the Father is through Jesus. The ‘ Father’ being the God of the Bible, and no other Holy book.
How inclusive and tolerant...

He handed us the gift of salvation, but we have to take it. He wants us to choose Him. Those who don’t, for whatever reason, mostly because they don’t believe in Him, won’t be going to Heaven. The Bible is very clear on that.
If we all just went anyway...regardless, then Jesus would never have needed to come. God’s desire is all people will come to repentance.

DiscoDancer1975 'Anyone who is bad, evil, nasty...isn't happy?'
How can you possibly know that? Maybe there are people (hopefully a very small minority) who genuinely take a pleasure in committing acts which the rest of us would think of as horrible or evil. Maybe that does make them happy.
I tend to think not, but respect your view.

@MissAdventure, for sure, and those who deny their actions even though they have been captured on video or there are witnesses etc but still deny it, blame it on others, or even appeal against any verdict
Some of them certainly seem happy enough.
Like the Moors murderers, taking photos of themselves at the burial sites of their victims.

Well, assuming there is no reincarnation, no one comes back to tell us do they.
I don't think that the truly evil [at least most of them] ever repent of their wicked deeds here on earth. They do not think that they have done wrong. Not just murderers or abusers, think of people who commit fraud that pitches the innocent into poverty. They are only interested in doing things that benefit them, and can justify any evil deed or atrocity. I do not imagine that they would repent of them even at the peraly gates or at the last judgement.
If they do not repent then if there is a hell they go there, whether or not it is a pit of fire, or having their liver eaten by an eagle eternally
Unless a deathbed repentance, they need to do somthing to show that they truly repent. Nowadays in cases like murder, [any other situations?] families have the chance to make a victim impact statement. I guess that gives the perpetrator a chance to fully understand how their actions have impacted so many people, as they receive human justice. A lot of things that people have done, it is hard to fathom how they could do things that would show repentence. And no amount of fundraising that J Savile did could atone for his evil deeds, it's not just doing good things. An abusive father could not make up to traumatised children by leaving lots of money or a house or whatever. .

Yes Doodle. Christianity is about following Jesus. Everything else is religion. So doing things religiously, like following rules.

Does repenting on a death bed count? If someone has done great harm to others and only repents in fear of whatever might happen after death, isn't that a last minute ‘ just in case there is a hell’ decision.
Does that wipe out all the evil and harm done? What about the victims of this evil? How might they feel if their aggressor has been forgiven?
If there is a God, who is s/he to forgive?
Yes it does...only God would know though. You have to remember, anyone who is bad, evil, nasty, or whatever you want to call it....isn’t happy. Happy people don’t behave like that. So you could say they are punished.
As Christians, we know none of us are getting it right, and we never will. It used to be, in The Old Testament, people had to abide by the laws, but there were so many of them!
So God sent Jesus. He enables us to make one choice, and repent. That’s it! This invitation is open to everyone in the whole world. Whether you accept it or not is up to you.
I heard a Priest say once that Religion was the enemy of Faith.
People got more caught up in following religious rules and regulations rather than just concentrating of their faith in God.
Urms I can understand you saying that humanists believe this is our only life and it concentrates the mind to think this way but there are a lot of people out there who commit terrible crimes and don’t have any faith in the afterlife at all. Perhaps it’s more to do with the person you are than whether you have beliefs or not.
Does one have to be ‘ friends’ with the repented?
Seems like a recipes for disaster.
