What happens to truly evil people when die?

My brother in law died last night.
A truly evil man.
Before my mum passed away she told me that he would have to stand before the Almighty and answer for all the things he had
done.
Things so terrible I can't say them.
I believe in a loving and forgiving God, so I'm having some trouble with what she said.
Any advice would be welcome please

No it doesn’t sound vengeful Allsorts. These are terrible things and apart from suffering in this life, which the people responsible definitely will, my belief is that eventually they will have to answer to God.

It’s been awful this Christmas, two tiny babies killed by parents, now two sets of twins left on their own and dying in a house fire. Surely these people suffer the rest of their life for their sins. PI cannot dwell on it as it’s beyond comprehension. Why do the innocent suffer, that bugs me. There has to be something beyond this life to which we are answerable. I don’t know what happens to these evil people, I hope they never find any peace or love or freedom. Sorry if that sounds vengeful.

Blondiescote just because something is done in the name of religion, doesn't mean that it's done because of that religion, and wouldn't have happened without it.

I agree GSM especially at this time of year which is so important to Christians.

Gill. paddyanne said she would ban religion. You have expressed agreement with her views. It would be nice if those who don’t have religious beliefs would lay off those of us who do. No-one is trying to harm or convert you.

GillT57 this discussion started with Paddyann , perhaps
read her post,

The last time I checked the Salvation army hadn't declared war on non believers. I have no problem at all with people who are part of an organised religion or have a belief so can some of you lay off with the silly comments aimed at those of us who are equally happy with not having any particular religious beliefs.

Blondiescot Sat 18-Dec-21 15:37:12

Smileless2012, but over the centuries, how many wars have been fought in the name of religion, how many atrocities committed in the name of religion? I'm by no means suggesting that there would be nothing like that if there was no religion, but you can't deny that many, many wars and other atrocities only happened because of it.

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 18-Dec-21 14:05:56

I would agree Alegrias that not all people of faith are good. One only has to consider the radicalised terrorists. I’m sure all religions have their fair share of people who profess to be followers but hide another side, often seen in the home.

Smileless2012 Sat 18-Dec-21 13:51:25

Yes exactly Annie.

Religion isn't the reason for the atrocities in the world, that's down to mankind. It would still happen whether there was religion or not.

"my beliefs are part of who I am and I'm happy with that" me too GSM.

Alegrias1 Sat 18-Dec-21 13:47:19

Anniebach

There are Atheists who do much for their fellow men and people of faiths who do much for their fellow men.

I can acknowledge this, atheists seem unable to.

I acknowledge readily that religious people do good for their fellow man, and I'm an atheist. So please don't make sweeping statements about atheists, Anniebach. That's no more defensible than making sweeping statements about religious people. But I always like to point out that being religious is not a pre-requisite to being a good person.

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 18-Dec-21 13:44:24

Quite right Annie.

I don’t think I need religion Alegrias, it has simply always been a part of my life though not in a blind, unquestioning sense. I’m reasonably well educated and realistic but my beliefs are part of who I am and I’m happy with that.

mumofmadboys Sat 18-Dec-21 13:25:10

There are lots of generous loving atheists

Alegrias1 Sat 18-Dec-21 13:18:07

Anniebach

Really, then you didn’t read Paddyann’s post

Chad Varah certainly cared about his fellow men

Oh, yes, you're right, I missed that one.

I wouldn't ban it. I'd try to educate people in the realities of life so that they didn't need it. No prejudice intended by using the word educate, I just mean it in the broadest sense. Some of the cleverest people in the world believe in religions.

Warren Buffet cares about his fellow man. Given away $40 billion. Atheist.

mumofmadboys Sat 18-Dec-21 13:15:55

If the Christian gospel was truly lived out the world would be a better place in my opinion. I am not denying the validity of other religions. If we are prepared to love our neighbours unconditionally as God loves us and we learnt to work for the common good our world could be transformed.

Nobody's mentioned banning religion. So no need for anyone to get twitchy.

All these non-religious groups that do good, like Social Bite or MSF... they don't need religion to motivate them. They do it for their fellow man. Much better motive.

Anniebach Sat 18-Dec-21 12:38:26

Ban the Salvation Army, close St.Martin In The Fields,

Who needs Christians

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 18-Dec-21 11:22:12

Absolutely Annie. Just a bunch of do-gooders in uniforms with a brass band. Never mind the thousands of poor and homeless people they help, as it’s in the name of religion I’m sure some here would agree it has to go.

Anniebach Sat 18-Dec-21 11:14:24

Let’s be rid of The Salvation Army for starters

GillT57 Fri 17-Dec-21 22:15:00

And me Paddyanne. I think the world would be a better place without guilt inducing religion. I appreciate it is important to many, but it is not for me and I don't consider myself a worse person for my lack of belief.

Antonia Fri 17-Dec-21 21:28:31

Another one in total agreement Paddyann.

Bridgeit Fri 17-Dec-21 16:16:17

I agree with you Paddyann.

paddyann54 Thu 16-Dec-21 22:59:01

Religion is the root cause of much of the worlds wars and problems,in my opinion we'd be far better of giving folk a good life so they didn't need the crutch of a religion.I'm not singling out one .they are all as bad as each other .
