Who is Netanyahu's God?

Netanyahu is a religious conservative (BBC). He is also an Israeli nationalist who has made Israel an Apartheid nation.

Judaism varies among religious Jews. As does Islam and Christianity.

MOnica, thanks for your reply. You wrote: "My sympathies were all with the Palestinians until the start of the Hamas campaign."

Hamas is not the Palestinian people. Hamas is like the Mafia, existing for its own ends.

Hamas is not the Palestinian people

Netanyahu is not the Jewish people either.

Putin is religious too apparently.

Gaza was acquired in war from Egypt

I’m not sure why Egypt gave Gaza to Israel, they certainly don’t want it now. Jordan tried to control the Palestinians in the West Bank, gave up and now maintains a large army to control the extremists (with US help)

Religions have always used their texts/doctrines as an excuse/justification for evil acts. None of this is new.

^Of course 7/10 was the excuse. Why else has Israel been stockpiling weapons? You don't declare war on a whim you have to be prepared for it^

Israel has been prepared for war since its creation in 1948. I doubt they have ever reduced their ‘stockpile’ of weapons.

Their army is called a defence force. Bit of a clue there don’t you think?

Well not just "prepared" it has waged war on many occasions and in many other countries. Can an army which wages war on foreign soil be called a "Defence" force?

I thought there was a commandment, ‘Thou shalt not Kill,’ part of the Mosaic Law given to the Jewish people. Biden is beyond the pale as far as I’m concerned, he has a vested interest in weaponry. Look at his son. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. I can’t wait for the Americans to wake up and get a decent President - and not Donald, either. That is something worth praying for.

growstuff Fri 29-Dec-23 10:33:14

The US has a massive stockpile of weapons situated in Israel. Apparently, Biden is moving to give Israel access to it.

Netanyahu believes in the right of the Jews to occupy Israel, nothing to do with religion. Hamas believes that all Jews should be driven out, there is no middle ground

Recent announcements and interviews on Israeli TV make it clear that Israel wants to drive Palestinians out of Gaza and possibly the West Bank.

In Hebrew law, 'an eye for an eye; a tooth for a tooth' means that the compensation must be no more than the loss. The Israeli revenge for the October 7th massacre by Hamas has now far exceeded that principle. I doubt that Netanyahu cares one iota.

I think it's fair enough to say that Netanyahu's god is probably the god of the Old Testament. A god who demands vengeance and retribution "an eye for an eye"
The Allah of some Muslims is a similar power.
The Christian god was the same at one time (and for some fundamentalists still is).
Hatred and discrimination are not the preserve of one religion.

Israel's treatment of the Palestinian people has been unacceptable for a long time. And there are many reports of Palestinian women being raped by Israelis, soldiers, police and interrogators. Sometimes when the women were simply visiting male relatives in prison.

I agree with Fleurpepper. Just as violation of Belgian neutrality was the official reason the UK declared war on Germany, while war had been brewing for years.

maddyone Fri 29-Dec-23 09:35:15

I don’t think we know that Fleurpepper. That’s an opinion which maybe correct, but may not be correct.

Fleurpepper Fri 29-Dec-23 09:31:28

How naive. 7/10 was the excuse they have been waiting for- and for a long time.

maddyone Fri 29-Dec-23 09:27:39

I think this war is partly about land, but I also think it’s about retribution from the Israelis for 7/10.

Magsymoo Thu 28-Dec-23 15:30:32

Most wars are about power not religion. You

Witzend Thu 28-Dec-23 15:15:44

All too often I’m afraid, religion is a convenient excuse for one set of people to hate another set.
Or for some of them anyway.

Magsymoo Thu 28-Dec-23 15:06:13

Tragically from time immemorial rape and murder of women and children has been used as a weapon of war - officially or not. A book which explores this “Our Bodies Their Battlefield “ by Christina Lamb, is a disturbing and powerful read.- Bosnia, Argentina,Syria,Congo, Burma, Iraq,Afghanistan, Japan, Red Army in Germany in WW2, Ancient Greeks, Romans, Persians.
Hamas are not unique in this atrocity. Women have always been used as spoils of war. This situation in Gaza will never be resolved by each side trying to outdo each other in violence. It will only be resolved when Israel’s biggest supporter, the US, insists on a political solution which can work towards giving Israel security and the Palestinians a state to live in with dignity and massive investment from the West.

Hamas must not be criticised?

Jaberwok Thu 28-Dec-23 14:35:20

I repeat, today, the 28th December is Holy Innocents Day. Perhaps on this day we can all pray or at least remember ALL children who are affected by war, those held hostage, those fleeing persecution, those displaced, those orphaned by war or hatred, ALL children wherever they are, whatever their circumstances.
