Trumps and Christianity

As an agnostic I just wanted to reach out to those of Christian beliefs who must be sick to their stomachs of this man who has taken over the US. Just one more reason for steering clear of religion for me. Too many despots claim god is on their side and use their god to justify evils.

I agree that Trump is a divisive figure and unpredictable but democracy has given him a second term. I watched Kamala giving her speech last night which included the words " we must continue the fight for democracy". Perhaps someone should point out that she is out and he is in precisely because the majority didn't have faith in her. I agree with a woman's right to choose and she has done good work in that area but it doesn't make you a good president. I still have no idea what her policies were!!

I don’t think Trump is anyone’s puppet. He is unpredictable which has advantages and disadvantages.

Trump doesn't thinks God is on his side he thinks he is God.

It would seem plenty of others think the same. He is Musk's puppet now. Let's see how all this pans out. It worries me a great deal.

He was bound to emphasis the God connection, especially after the failed assassination attempt. Many of those who voted for him are from the Bible Belt.

I imagine they are.

I dont know enough about the US. But since 52% of voters, 77 million people, voted for him, I wouldnt at all think they were all Christians?

Reading some of these posts, the witch hunt demonizing Trump is part of the reason he won with such a large majority, the media, pollsters and many others cast him as the underdog, which galvanized republicans to vote

The whole campaign had been about personalities and it backfired

I know a few people like this and they sincerely believe he is God sent. If you know your Bible you will know that many people who followed the Christian/ Jewish god were deeply flawed - think Paul, David and many, many others. Who knows who is used as an instrument of His power ?

Deedaa Wed 06-Nov-24 21:06:58

If you read what Trump supporters say on line you will see that many of them are are fundamentalist Christians who believe that Trump has been chosen by God to save America. He can literally do no wrong because the Lord has his back.

Yes, 'beware the wolf in sheep's clothing' and all that.

To be honest Trump has never hidden his disdain for anyone except himself.

He makes his mate Putin seem like a saint.

I agree that Trump is the dreaded end but I don't think even Beelzebub himself would make Putin seem like a saint.

So JudyBloom, are those who did not vote for Mr Trump not decent?

Fleurpepper Wed 06-Nov-24 18:38:40

Your comment is astounding JudyBloom.

Luckygirl, Trump hasn't taken over the U.S. He was voted in by the majority of decent American people.

Just listened to part of Trumpmusk's speech in which he said God was on his side. Anyone that claims that is clearly deluded. For unbelievers there is no God- for non-Christians it could be anyone's God. For Christians it is more important for them to be on the side of God.

Chocolatelovinggran Wed 06-Nov-24 14:48:53

Anniebach, indeed such quotes especially from the Old Testament, with its tales of retribution, rather than the gospels with their talk of loving your enemies.

The devil quotes scripture

Thank you for replies.
I’d forgotten that he said God saved him after he was shot.
To be honest, I don’t like the man and often didn’t listen to him when he was featured on news items.

RosiesMaw2 Wed 06-Nov-24 12:59:05

Another Oxymoron?

Has Trump claimed God is on his side?
I know he panders to the extreme fundamentalist Christians in southern America re abortion rights.

Yes, quite publicly at his rallies.

Saw 2 documentaries in last few days on Trump rallies and supporters- very clearly stating that he is sent directly from God and praying that he will be elected in the name of God.

Caleo Wed 06-Nov-24 12:10:03

PS I don't mean that Mr Biden was the Almighty but that Mr Trump never attended the Sermon on the Mount, whereas Mr Biden obviously paid some attention to it, sacrificing his personal power for the common good.

No. Trump IS the new Almighty who will take over the reins of power from Jesus of mercy and reason.

Caleo Wed 06-Nov-24 12:01:28

"Who is my neighbour" asks Jesus of Nazareth.

Ordinary human kindness of the good merciful Samaritan answers our question. Mercy and goodness are universal not national. There are medics in Gaza right now.

It is not necessary to be a card -carrying Christian to trust Jesus of Nazareth.

Smileless2012 Wed 06-Nov-24 11:59:10

Being a Christian is much more than following a religion, it's having a personal relationship with God.

Yes, Trump said God had saved him for a reason then again one could say that 'the devil looks after his own'.
