Trumps and Christianity

As an agnostic I just wanted to reach out to those of Christian beliefs who must be sick to their stomachs of this man who has taken over the US. Just one more reason for steering clear of religion for me. Too many despots claim god is on their side and use their god to justify evils.

Trumps! ... thank you spellchecker... it cannot bear to let me mention his name!! Trump.

madalene Wed 06-Nov-24 10:32:44

Has Trump claimed God is on his side?
I know he panders to the extreme fundamentalist Christians in southern America re abortion rights.

Trump said God had saved him for a reason after the failed assassination attempt on his life.

Judge not, lest ye be judged.

Trump said God had saved him for a reason after the failed assassination attempt on his life.

That proves God is always right then!

Indeed luckygirl, I am a Christian and am not happy to be considered as being in agreement with some of the scarier pronouncements from Mr Trump and his followers.
I am most concerned that Mr T feels, now, that he has a mandate from the Almighty.

keepingquiet Wed 06-Nov-24 11:48:45

Yes, 'beware the wolf in sheep's clothing' and all that.

To be honest Trump has never hidden his disdain for anyone except himself.

He makes his mate Putin seem like a saint.

Being a Christian is much more than following a religion, it's having a personal relationship with God.

Yes, Trump said God had saved him for a reason then again one could say that 'the devil looks after his own'.

"Who is my neighbour" asks Jesus of Nazareth.

Ordinary human kindness of the good merciful Samaritan answers our question. Mercy and goodness are universal not national. There are medics in Gaza right now.

It is not necessary to be a card -carrying Christian to trust Jesus of Nazareth.

No. Trump IS the new Almighty who will take over the reins of power from Jesus of mercy and reason.

Yes, quite publicly at his rallies.

Caleo Wed 06-Nov-24 12:10:03

PS I don't mean that Mr Biden was the Almighty but that Mr Trump never attended the Sermon on the Mount, whereas Mr Biden obviously paid some attention to it, sacrificing his personal power for the common good.

Saw 2 documentaries in last few days on Trump rallies and supporters- very clearly stating that he is sent directly from God and praying that he will be elected in the name of God.

RosiesMaw2 Wed 06-Nov-24 12:59:05

Another Oxymoron?

madalene Wed 06-Nov-24 13:03:44

Thank you for replies.
I’d forgotten that he said God saved him after he was shot.
To be honest, I don’t like the man and often didn’t listen to him when he was featured on news items.

Anniebach Wed 06-Nov-24 13:26:47

The devil quotes scripture

Chocolatelovinggran Wed 06-Nov-24 14:48:53

Anniebach, indeed such quotes especially from the Old Testament, with its tales of retribution, rather than the gospels with their talk of loving your enemies.

keepingquiet Wed 06-Nov-24 18:09:10

Just listened to part of Trumpmusk's speech in which he said God was on his side. Anyone that claims that is clearly deluded. For unbelievers there is no God- for non-Christians it could be anyone's God. For Christians it is more important for them to be on the side of God.

JudyBloom Wed 06-Nov-24 18:26:06

Luckygirl, Trump hasn't taken over the U.S. He was voted in by the majority of decent American people.

Witzend Wed 06-Nov-24 18:35:33

He was bound to emphasis the God connection, especially after the failed assassination attempt. Many of those who voted for him are from the Bible Belt.

Fleurpepper Wed 06-Nov-24 18:38:40

Your comment is astounding JudyBloom.

Chocolatelovinggran Wed 06-Nov-24 20:52:08

So JudyBloom, are those who did not vote for Mr Trump not decent?

I agree that Trump is the dreaded end but I don't think even Beelzebub himself would make Putin seem like a saint.

Deedaa Wed 06-Nov-24 21:06:58

If you read what Trump supporters say on line you will see that many of them are are fundamentalist Christians who believe that Trump has been chosen by God to save America. He can literally do no wrong because the Lord has his back.
