More young better off in benefits
Now here is a truly brave woman, who has put her career on the line here, as a true Christian who really understands what Christianity is about.
Trump, Malania, Vance and families, were just trapped there, and could not walk out or stop her. Stunning and so full of humanity.

Well said.
Though I'm sure half the kids do it on purpose! Our DC used to call DH Farter when they were teenagers 😯
Although in an affectionate way! In fact, they still do occasionally.
"--this is the same Bishop who called out Trump in 2020 for posing with a bible for a publicity shot outside a church without going in." (NotSpaghetti)
That was she indeed. Mariann Budde is constant in her trust in the Christian message of acceptance for the rejected, the poor, and the despised.
A prophet for our time.
Cometh the hour, cometh the man.
Mariann Budde is a true spiritual leader .
escaped he'd probably just write "burger" if he had to write anything at all!
Though I'm sure half the kids do it on purpose!
I meant spell it wrong on purpose, not fart on purpose.
Though stranger things have happened!
Don't worry, Whitewavemark2, Kirch only screams spelling mistake to German scholars. In spoken language, one might not notice, though the lack of an umlaut on the u/ü (Küche) would have made a big difference in pronunciation.
The classic spelling mistake in school, as we are aptly talking about family trees, is Grossfarter for grandfather. (Großvater). Though I'm sure half the kids do it on purpose!
As long as Donald can correctly write the word Hamburger on his lunch request, he will be fine.
My version was a fight with the iPad! Every time I put in Kirche it extended it to something else (it didn’t actually do it this time😄) so I gave up
I totally sympathise!( And hope you were not offended. The metaphorical red pen never quite goes away)
On the few occasions I have had to email in another language it has been a word by word struggle! And I don’t do it often enough to change or switch off the spellchecker/predictive texting.
It has a sneaky way of waiting until you made made it safely to the end - then changes it back again!
But I was amused that anybody should think Bavarian antecedents made any difference to the actual German.

Kinder, Kuche, Kirch.
Kinder, Küche, Kirche
Trumps grandparents were Bavarian- so Whitewave's version is probably more correct.
{sigh}
The saying is Kinder, Küche, Kirche as the poster clearly shows. The words Kuche and Kirch do not exist .
Trumps Bavarian ancestors (grandfather Friedrich) or Scottish grandmother (Mary Anne MacLeod) have no bearing on accurate German etymology or spelling .
Alas there is no connection with the cherry liqueur Kirschbut yes, Kirche (German) Kerk (Dutch) Kirk (Danish) are all connected and have the same root Kirkja (Old Norse)

As I have said elsewhere I consider woke men in particular as generally deeply sexist and often very aggressive to women who disagree with them. Woke means different things to different people.
If everyone used the definition of “woke” which in its original context means “awake and aware of social justice” which is how I, and many others use it, there would be no confusion.
Being “woke” is not an insult to many of us, it’s just typical that the expression has been hijacked, mainly by the right, to use as a stick with which to beat “liberals/lefties/snowflakes” or any one else who shows a modicum of compassion and human kindness.
Not every American supports Trump, in fact many are disgusted and angry about him being POTUS.
Allira how do you know the Bishop wasn't being woke when as you say "whatever woke means". It's done with.

They are not Bavarian . They are from the Rhein-Palatinate . The wine region . His descendants there want nothing to do with him .
Johannes Trump, born in the nearby village Bobenheim am Berg in 1789, had established himself by the early 1830s as a winegrower in Kallstadt where his grandson, Friedrich Trump, the grandfather of Donald Trump, was born in 1869 (then part of the Kingdom of Bavaria )

Yes, Bavaria at the time.

And also people supporting her.
Brave lady, and what a great time to question the fundamental moralities of key Trump policies.
Good short article in the Guardian 4 hours ago with critics and supporters and more about the bishop, who has ctiticed Trump before apparently. almost certainly he/MAGA would have known what was coming so disingenuous.

The internet is now full of Americans saying that the Bishop is an embarrassment to Christianity. I don't think some of them have ever read any further than the Old Testament. She didn't say anything that you won't find in the teachings of the New Testament. I just worry about her safety now.

I think the Bishop is admirable. The Emperors New Clothes came to mind

I don’t think being woke equates to compassion. Obviously others do and thats fine.
The Bishop is married and has children, I only assumed she was transgender, However, I did not like her address, others did .
Lots of women like and voted for Trump which I do not understand as he wants to take their rights away.
The Bishop wasn't being woke whatever woke means.
She was being compassionate and asking that Trump shows compassion to all.

All the fuss could have been avoided if Trump and friends had simply said, well, I really disagree, but she's entitled to a different POV, and dropped it.
I hope it will be a light in the dark for others. The prospect especially of families being torn apart (because children of undocumented long term workers are citizens of USA but parents aren't) is appalling. I was telling a non political friend about this today and she couldn't believe anyone could do this.
Yes, it could.
But he appears to be a man who does not like criticism or to be thwarted.

Thanks.
Trump doesn't touch alcohol. He's teetotal. His brother sadly died young from alcoholism.
