Now here is a truly brave woman, who has put her career on the line here, as a true Christian who really understands what Christianity is about.

Trump, Malania, Vance and families, were just trapped there, and could not walk out or stop her. Stunning and so full of humanity.

I also think that the main problem here is that Trump truly believes that he has been chosen by God.. He said this in his speech and I think that he is delusional enough to think that he is now above the church..

Yes, indeed, and this delusion was endorsed by Franklin Graham (son of Billy Graham) who spoke at the swearing in ceremony. He also said that the criminal charges against Trump were all politically motivated.

For we were all once strangers in this land

Something they seem to forget.

There's a massive move in America for women to become stay at home mums similar to 50's wives.. It's called the Trad wife

RosiesMaw2 Wed 22-Jan-25 14:13:17

Only perhaps?

Curlywhirly Wed 22-Jan-25 14:10:35

Perhaps Margaret Atwood had that in mind when she wrote The Handmaid's Tale. 🙄

I think its worth reading the whole text and making our own minds up.

"“Let me make one final plea, Mr. President. Millions have put their trust in you and,

as you told the nation yesterday, you have felt the providential hand of a loving God.

In the name of our God, I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now.

There are gay, lesbian and transgender children in Democratic, Republican, and Independent families, some who fear for their lives.

The people who pick our crops and clean our office buildings; who labor in poultry farms and meat packing plants; who wash the dishes after we eat in restaurants and work the night shifts in hospitals.

They…may not be citizens or have the proper documentation. But the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals. They pay taxes and are good neighbors. They are faithful members of our churches and mosques, synagogues, gurudwaras and temples.

I ask you to have mercy, Mr. President, on those in our communities whose children fear that their parents will be taken away.

And that you help those who are fleeing war zones and persecution in their own lands to find compassion and welcome here. Our God teaches us that we are to be merciful to the stranger, for we were all once strangers in this land. May God grant us the strength and courage to honor the dignity of every human being, to speak the truth to one another in love and walk humbly with each other and our God for the good of all people.

Good of all people in this nation and the world. Amen”

If this is "woke" as the DM suggests today - oh, words fail!

It’s a wonderful, compassionate, humane speech, which I salute and admire!

Wyllow3 Wed 22-Jan-25 13:58:22

I am glad it has "gone viral". It gives an opportunity for discussion and reflection at a time of so many "directives" sent out.

Poem attached to the Statue of Liberty

*Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!*

Eloethan Wed 22-Jan-25 13:53:17

So having compassion is "woke nonsense" is it. I wonder what Jesus would have thought about that.

Eloethan Wed 22-Jan-25 13:51:49

This brave woman has made me cry. At last, someone with the guts to stand up for those who have no voice. I could hardly believe it.

mumofmadboys Wed 22-Jan-25 13:39:34

I thank God for her. What a lovely compassionate lady trying hard to live up to God's calling of her. So brave and eloquent and loving.

When it comes to using 'woke' as an insult, in the immortal words of Kathy Burke: “I love being ‘woke’. It’s much nicer than being an ignorant f**** twat.”

Well said!

'No terminations, no birth control, no rights.
Church, kitchen, children.
Ring any bells?'

Most definitely - The Handmaid's Tale. Chilling.

I was thinking of the Nazi mantra for women.

Wow!

Stamp on anybody you dislike. Stamp twice if they are brown.

Makes me puke.

There must be some psychology behind this adoration of these monsterous males? Something lacking.

Trump believes that God saved him to do his (specific) bidding. Therefore he believes he can do no wrong.

I think that you and others are right about that, very worrying.

I wonder what Vance muttered to his wife. He made 2 attempts and she blanked him both times. She continued to look forward and listen intently to the Bishop.

She was probably in shock being lectured to, and having to listen to such woke nonsense. I’d have walked out.

I should think, being a highly intelligent woman and an Indo-American, child of immigrants, she was listening intently and will be discussing this with her husband in depth.

Perhaps she might help him to modify his views.
