As per the heading. A family I'm friendly with have recently moved to this area - into a hundreds of years old house. They've found it comes with three resident ghosts!
They aren't bothered about the dog ghost they've come across there. But they are bothered about the two human ghosts. The woman is less of a nuisance - though it's disconcerting to have her pick up an egg at intervals from their egg rack and throw it across the room (their own dog enjoys a treat of lapping it up when that happens). But they'd certainly prefer not to have her there - especially when she pushed one of their daughters the other day.
There is a male one as well and they definitely don't like him being around - as he feels quite aggressive to them.
My first suggestion when they told me about their unwelcome house guests was to contact the local Catholic church and ask for an exorcism. They told me they did that - and just got an email back saying "We'll pray for you". They wanted something rather more positive than that.
They're pretty open to any way that will do the trick to remove the unwanted house guests and I'm duly thinking my way through my contacts - through from Anglican to pagan to Spiritualist to see who might be able to help them evict the unwanted guests.
Has anyone got any helpful thoughts? contacts?. We're talking West Wales here...

Perfectly for real crossstitch.
Some people never have anything happen that cant be explained with their standard 5 senses - but many people also experience "other" stuff of the more inexplicable variety.
I'm quite prepared to believe my friend - because of the number of inexplicable things that have happened to me over the course of my life to date (albeit of a different nature). I've got my own list in my head of things I've known I had no logical way of knowing/of things that have happened that couldnt have - but they did.
I was most annoyed one time back in my last house that it took months before a kitchen item of mine returned to its rightful place in the kitchen. A thing of a very different nature to ghosts in the place - but it's still pretty annoying when you know one of your measuring jugs is at that place on that shelf in that cupboard and so you look for it there next time you want it and it isnt there (I lived on my own - so no-one else in the house would have moved at - as there was no-one else). Cue for I looked and looked everywhere in my kitchen for that darn jug and no sign of it.
I can be quite stubborn sometimes and so every time I wished to use that jug I opened that cupboard and looked for it on that shelf - and it was never ever there (or anywhere else in my house). Until several months later and I did the same again - and there it was....back in its normal place as usual. I couldnt say for the life of me why it vanished and then why it reappeared again - but just stayed firm that I wanted my jug back and it reappeared. Shades of "Are they right that there are parallel universes around?".
Inexplicable things do happen - ghostly visitors, vanishing items, noises that have no obvious cause....that's just the way it is.
That’s fascinating! Thank you.
I am not being rude! The Catholic Church will not carry out an exorcism, until all the protocols have been followed. It is a Safeguarding issue.
Your knowledge of Catholic exorcisms seems rather scant., Cariad.

This!
Yes indeed. 2025...just saying
It seems from this that both Anglican and Catholic priests can carry out exorcisms.Does it make any difference?
I’m sceptical about talking to ghosts. Has anybody tried asking some sort of question- Please open the window next time you come or never come on Wednesdays - and had a response?
Is there a reliable book on this subject?
We have only one exorcist in our Catholic Diocese. His identity is known only to a few people. I believe most priests are reluctant to take on that role.

Since I'm not a Catholic and nor is my friend then that's not surprising we don't know the "ins and outs" of Catholic exorcism. It's not "our" church.
We're both pretty broadminded and I've come up with a choice of Anglican Church, Spiritualist Church, New Age paganism and traditional centuries old version of paganism and given her details of how to make contact on all those possibilities and it's up to her which she chooses to go for. I've just told her I can find contacts for her in whichever direction she chooses to go on this and that's her decision.
I do understand why some people are (badly expressed imo) being cynical about this. It's very easy to be cynical and come out with posts going "Oh....there must be something wrong with her" or "Oh...there's no such thing" re some of the inexplicable stuff that does happen to a lot of perfectly capable/mentally healthy people. It's easier to tell oneself "There is nothing inexplicable and if I can't access with my standard 5 senses then it doesnt exist and there's something 'wrong' with people saying otherwise". It is something that makes me nervous sometimes to be personally aware there are indeed things we can't comprehend with the basic 5 senses - but I know there is myself and I'm intelligent and perfectly mentally healthy (think very logically and make my basic decisions based on logic personally and if "logic" says "No" about something or somebody then it's "logic" I go by). I am guessing ridiculing/calling names is a protection mechanism some people do - because they are too scared to acknowledge this sort of stuff does indeed happen. So they'd rather call people names than admit it does and I understand why they're scared and act that way - but it is not very helpful
But, even as an intelligent, healthy, logical person - I can see there is "more" going on in the world than just what the basic 5 senses tell us.
I was responding to your unnecessary comment about being rude. Plain facts . Nothing else, no aspersions directed at you and your friends.
What a bizarre thread😄😄
Deary me - whatever happened to the age of reason!? This is 2025!
I do know that priests have blessed houses in the past.
My parent's house was blessed - and also a friend's in Scotland.
I don't think this falls into "exorcism"
This general belief acceptance of ghosts - extraordinary! Do most people here believe in the supernatural?
A Catholic excorcism would need to be done in conjunction with psychological support these days, if you can actually find a priest who does it.
*parents' house.

It is a totally different thing. Holy water is sprinkled in every room and prayers said.
It is common for Catholics, to ask for a new house to be blessed.
Exactly Marydoll.
That was (supposed to be) my point.

Even although I am sceptical about spritis inhabiting a house, if it was my house, I would be going around sprinkling Holy water, just in case!
Exorcism is related to demonic possession.
Is it April 1st?

Our daughter and SIL bought a 16th century moated that had been a safe house during the English civil war.
It was a spooky old pile that had been empty for 18 months, there was a reasonable amount of activity.
3 years of children dogs and friends and everything has settled done.
I live in west Wales - as far as I know the nearest deliverance minister is in Hereford. Most deliverance ministers also have access to other professionals (health and social) for advice as well.
There is also a deliverance minister in Cardiff:
The Very Reverend Canon Dr Jason Bray is an Anglican priest and the Dean of Llandaff Cathedral.
Some years ago I knew the Anglican vicar who carried out exorcisms in the area. I believe in the afterlife and we had a long discussion, during which he mentioned some of the exorcisms he had undertaken, without any identifying details obviously. I have no reason to disbelieve anything he said.
In the Catholic church an exorcist is a priest who has taken a special training, which enables him to perform exorcisms, so it is rather unlikely that the nearest church would have an exorcist amont the priests there,
Phone the diocese and explain the problem and ask to be put in touch with an excorcist, although a blessing of the house may be sufficient, so you could ask the local parish priest to come and do that first.
I suspect that you either get rid of all three ghosts, dog included, or of none of them. The female sounds more like a poltergeist - ghosts do not usually throw things around.
I have genuinely always wanted to have a supernatural experience and have only ever had a very low-key one which was more of a supernatural "hint" than anything else.
So I'm still waiting.
CariadAgain's friends are understandably unhappy about the aggressive ghost so I think that the idea of contacting the Catholic Diocese to see if a blessing could be arranged is a good one.
I'm assuming that the poster's friends are completely genuine and are being genuine with the OP.
What a bizarre thread
I don’t believe in ghosts they are in peoples minds
You were writing about everyone stealing off you a few months ago CariadAgain you seem to be involved in some strange happenings
That’s your opinion BlueBelle (about ghosts). Some would beg to differ, based on experience.
