Israel is not coterminous with Judaism.

I respect and like Judaism. My Lord was a Jew. Judeo Christianity has been a major civilising influence.

I deplore and despise the extreme right wing nationalism of Israel.

I don't know where you get your news from Annie!

Anniebach Tue 29-Apr-25 14:43:58

Only taking hostages , even babies, and murdering innocent people

It gives Palestinians the right to invade Israel ? no

That wasn't the issue. Palestine has never succeeded in grabbing Israeli land.

I said Theroux was biased, his greetings to the Palestinians were so warm, his choice I know .

He greeted Daniella Weiss warmly too - that's his style.

Never again should also be for those dying terrible deaths today. This time the victims are not Jews and others, but palistinians dying under Israeli bombs and rockets. Each one of those children were their parents beloved child.

I am sure every child put into the ovens of death camps and every child sacrificed to medical research by Mengele were
their parents beloved child

The documentary wasn't about Nazi Germany. I expect Theroux is well aware of what happened during the war, but that doesn't give Israelis the right to grab Palestinian land.

His documentary was a rehash of the BBC documentary which was withdrawn after news that those involved were from Hamas families

No, it wasn't. It was about the West Bank (and specifically settlements) not Gaza.

I’ve never like Louis Theroux and his fake ‘innocent’ or rather gormless stance no matter where he is or who he’s interviewing. There are aggressive settlers and aggressive Palestinians in the West Bank.A plague on both their houses, let them get on with it.

silverlining48 Tue 29-Apr-25 09:14:21

So that makes it ok then? No it doesn’t.
Two wrongs do not make a right.

It should be obvious. They claim these bombing of innocent civilians is just wrong, no matter who is bombing.

Really? There was no tv in 1940’ s , well not in South Wales ,
Pathe News was so for Cinemas ,

Who said the quote "never again"?
The initial meaning of the phrase, used by Abba Kovner and other Holocaust survivors, was particular to the Jewish community.

I accept the quote is now used by some for wars

silverlining48 Mon 28-Apr-25 20:34:24

Cinema not tv.

silverlining48 Mon 28-Apr-25 20:31:47

Theroux wasn’t biased, nor was the bbc. He observed and let people speak for themselves.
You don’t comment about the programme, but talk about what you saw on tv at 8. Never again, but children have and are being killed, many thousands of them. It’s happening now, every day. Does that not disturb you at all?

Anniebach Mon 28-Apr-25 20:29:18

The Telegraph Speaks for me -

Oh, BBC. Why do you do this to yourself? If you’ve been brought low by accusations of bias in a documentary about Israel and Gaza – and an investigation into Gaza: How To Survive A Warzone is ongoing – it’s not the best idea to broadcast another one so soon.

True, this is not a BBC News programme but Louis Theroux: The Settlers (BBC Two). It is mostly concerned with the West Bank, rather than Hamas-controlled Gaza. Theroux is under no obligation to hide where his sympathies lie, and he doesn’t, closing the film by telling a leading settler that she’s a sociopath because she doesn’t care about the suffering of Palestinians.

growstuff Mon 28-Apr-25 20:03:20

"Anniebach* Why do you think it was biased? Theroux set out to find out what life is like in the West Bank, not in London or death camps. It was about what is happening now.

growstuff Mon 28-Apr-25 20:00:42

growstuff I’m sure you’re right, some settlers are extremists. So are some Hamas menbers/supporters

I have no doubt about that.

The DM appears to be behind a paywall now, so I can't read any personal attacks. What were the attacks accusing him of doing? To me, it seemed like typical Louis Theroux style - he lets people speak for themselves and his audience to make up its own mind.

Anniebach Mon 28-Apr-25 19:59:37

I watched it, Theroux was so biased , did the BBC give viewers
what they wanted from the documentary they had to apologise for and withdraw
I believe the world has decided who are victims and villains, a few things which seem to haunt me, the met police officer who
last year described a man coming from a Synagogue as
“Openly Jewish “the man was wearing a kippah . Age 8 I went
with my Baptist Church Sunday School to the cinema just to watch the Pathe News, we saw the victims in the death camps , i
couldn’t understand why the children,I. Thought children were
loved . Those words Never Again echo still

Surely no one is shocked that there were extremists ?

Iam64 Mon 28-Apr-25 19:36:17

I haven’t watched yet, I saw a very negative review, personal attack on Louis Theroux in the DMail, positive review in the Guardian.

growstuff I’m sure you’re right, some settlers are extremists. So are some Hamas menbers/supporters

I’m genuinely fearful because of Trumps plans for Gaza. How dare he

70 year struggle 1955 ? the war in 1948 was 5 Arab countries attacking Israel

Do you know what was the catalyst for that attack? Arabs were being forced to flee parts of Palestine in advance of the establishment of an Israeli state. Israel declared a Declaration of Independence and continued to forced Arabs to leave the land the Israelis claimed was theirs. In the end, Israel ended up with more land than the United Nations had planned.

The bit which really got me was when the Palestinians were picking olives from their own trees. The Israeli turned up and told them to leave. They took Theroux' journalist ID card and passport away. Theroux asked them what would happen if they didn't go and the soldiers wouldn't say. Some of the Israelis interviewed were extremists - no other word for it.

I agree with you....for me it was the comments made by one of the Rabbi's, I'm not going to repeat the language he used to describe 'human beings'.
A man of faith?!!
