The kindertansport was just before the borders closed, so I believe. I met a lovely lady who had been just 4 years old. All settled and grown up family in our area.
She wrote a beautiful children's picture book about how she picked up the language.
Toured the local schools during holocaust remembrance weeks.

Yes my family in Wales were blessed with a child of Jewish faith, we had a long time friendship with Jews in South Wales,
I have journals of my g grandfather, he speaks of Jews helping to feed in soup kitchens during the depressions and miners strikes

It's not likely to happen so we can only do what we can.

Support those charities which might be able to help.
Don't forget about those conflicts which are still going on elsewhere. Nearby there is a Ukrainian hub and local people help there, people were more than ready to help the Afghan refugees.

Turn our feelings of despair and helplessness into practical support.

Support Save the Children, The Red Cross etc.

It eases our conscience which is, in a way, a selfish motive, but if it helps that's all to the good.

Maremia, you are quite right. I intended my original post to be polemical. I intended to compare how our ordinary human kindness is increasingly frustrated by how the State reacts to inconvenient truths such as genocide against Palestinians.

Not all the people of Gaza are Hamas or even Muslim. There are still Christians there too, and they suffer just the same. There are probably people who have no religion either, but they suffer too.

Not all Israelis are Jews- there are more Jews in the US than there are in Israel. The second largest population of Jews in the middle east live in Iran.
There are people of all faiths and none living in Israel.

Even Netanyahu does not practice his Jewish faith.

Can we stop making this about religion and see it for what it is- a war about land grabbing and wielding power over the powerless?

Not so, having guards at schools , Synagogues, graveyards is not living peacefully, not in UK

The ongoing Genocide has stirred up so much. Innocent people of the Jewish faith over here, and innocent people in Gaza are suffering.
Netanyahu knows what should be done. But if it doesn't suit him, then he won't, and the suffering will go on.

I wish I could help Palestinians. They are stuck, in the first place they can't get out & other Arab countries won't facilitate this because they believe Palestinians should have a future in their native land. Such is the (borrowed) power of Israel that if they are hounded out, Palestine will cease to exist.So Arab countries don't facilitate their hounding -out.
So many children, such needless suffering. If a host of nationalities appeared at my door & I could only take one family in, it would be the Palestinian one.

Ha ha on a thread about kindness the usual oh daily mail readers unkindness. But yeah the good guys.

I wish I could help Palestinians. Any one of us here at Gransnet, if a Palestinian mother and child in terrible need were to appear at our door seeking help we would take look after them

Even if was possible for a family to come to the uk there is no way our security services would sanction the move.

How I wish Hamas would leave Gaza and return the hostages , alive and dead

I misunderstood. Are you saying Jewish people are not safe in the UK but are in other parts of the world?

Or are you saying the UK is the only safe space for Jews?

If Jews were safe in the UK why is there fear ? I wouldn’t try to
claim I know if all countries are safe or unsafe, I do not

Fear is a part of what it is to be human- whether you live by rivers, or in the desert, or in Ukraine, or South Sudan, or Myanmar, or North Korea...

Trying to allay your own fears by killing people is not an answer.

As for Anniebach , she is well able to write her ideas, and does so better than some others ,so I won't patronise her.
