I wish I could help Palestinians. Any one of us here at Gransnet, if a Palestinian mother and child in terrible need were to appear at our door seeking help we would take look after them

Caleo Sun 06-Jul-25 08:06:13

Same as for any other mother and her baby.

In the UK, and much of Europe, there was a good response to finding accommodation for the Ukrainian refugees from Putin's war.
I remember, in the 1990's, the Kosovans who came here, until it was safe to return home.
It would not be so straightforward, because of cultural differences, but there could be some positive response, for your Palestinian family.
On the other hand we have 'the boats' issue, as is frequently discussed on GN threads.
On yet another hand, some of our parents' generation contributed to helping find accommodation for those in the kindertransport of Jewish children to our shores.
If some in the Israeli Parliament have their way, then they will all have to leave Gaza, the West Bank and anywhere in Israel.

Hamas wish is to clear the planet of Jews

Do you know Caleo, I don't think I have ever visited a Religion/spirituality thread before.
I know that you can be spiritual without being religious, and that there are so many religions in the world, but, this being Sunday, your thread might attact some Christian GNs, on the day when their thoughts are focused on Faith, Hope and Charity. What was that teaching? The greatest of these is Charity, and your proposition is a practical example of that.

Caleo Sun 06-Jul-25 09:29:00

It's unseasonal , Maremia, but there's a mercy and hospitality theme in the Christmas story.

Not a bad precedent ?

Lathyrus3 Sun 06-Jul-25 09:32:53

I don’t really understand what you mean.

There are a number of organisations that you can donate to and help children in Palestine.

Maremia Sun 06-Jul-25 09:38:35

Yes, Lathyrus3, but I got the feeling that the post was a more, do you know, I can't find the word. The word I am looking for means 'emotional rather than practical'.
Is the practical help still getting through?

M0nica Sun 06-Jul-25 09:44:00

Why just a Palestinian mother and child? Why not a jewish mother and child injured and destroyed by the original Hamas raid? Why not a mother and child from ffurther down your road, devastated and fleeing an abusive partner?

So many people's compassion is driven by politics, racism, and other forms of prejudice. How sad to see it on GN.

Lathyrus3 Sun 06-Jul-25 09:46:38

I’ve been told I lack compassion on other threads.

It’s true I think if compassion means feeling bad about people’s plight.

Im much more likely to do something about it.😬

Maremia Sun 06-Jul-25 09:50:15

I think it is because that the stated object and intent in some of the Knesset is that all the Palestinians in Gaza be expelled from that area. That intent has been recorded over and over again.
If there was a problem with the resettlement of a Jewish mother and child, I believe that we would respond, as we did at the time of Hitler's persecution of the Jews,
as we have responded with the Ukrainian mothers and children, and the Kosovan mothers and children.

Maremia Sun 06-Jul-25 09:53:04

Have another read at Caleo's second post on this thread? I do believe that it answers your point Monica.

Maremia Sun 06-Jul-25 09:54:39

I know what you mean Lathyrus 3, 'actions speak louder than words', but if you wish, you can do both.

nanna8 Sun 06-Jul-25 09:54:40

I believe the object of Hamas is to annihilate the Jews from the earth. From the river to the sea. I’d rather be expelled than annihilated.

Maremia Sun 06-Jul-25 09:59:53

You are assuming that all mothers and children in Gaza are Hamas.
They are not.
There are Christians in Gaza who are suffering the same.
There are Muslims who are not Hamas.
So moving back to the OP, and possibly away from the 'News and Politics' vibe, would non-Hamas refugees from Gaza be welcome?

Anniebach Sun 06-Jul-25 10:07:38

Who knows who are Hamas and non Hamas ?

The OP speaks of Palestinian mother and child only ,

Lathyrus3 Sun 06-Jul-25 10:08:32

Maremia

I know what you mean Lathyrus 3, 'actions speak louder than words', but if you wish, you can do both.

Oh yes. I just don’t understand why the OP said she wished she could help.

She can!

Caleo Sun 06-Jul-25 10:17:41

Lathyrus, I asked my MP and my request, forwarded to local authority to offer two rooms to Palestinian refugees was rejected as there is no way in place in this country for this to happen. However the local authority can let me take Ukrainian refugees under certain conditions.

After the Holocaust there is no valid excuse for lack of European help for a people facing genocide.

Anniebach Sun 06-Jul-25 10:32:28

There was no help before and during the Holocaust

Lathyrus3 Sun 06-Jul-25 10:33:00

Why do you need your MP! Or even the Council?

Your local mosque will put you in touch with smebody that would be grateful for accommodation.

Maremia Sun 06-Jul-25 10:37:27

Try reading the thread again, particularly looking out for post number 2, and you may notice your error, Annieb.
Found it?

Maremia Sun 06-Jul-25 10:42:40

'Who knows who are Hamas and non Hamas'... AnnieB...that is exactly what everyone who is opposed to the genocide in Gaza is talking about. The IDF makes no distinction between the guilty and the innocent when they are bombing...children, medics, journalists
That's what we oppose.
So glad you understand that now.

I replied to a post which spoke only of the OP, I did read the
second post which reads as an afterthought

Maremia Sun 06-Jul-25 10:45:16

The kindertansport was just before the borders closed, so I believe. I met a lovely lady who had been just 4 years old. All settled and grown up family in our area.
She wrote a beautiful children's picture book about how she picked up the language.
Toured the local schools during holocaust remembrance weeks.

Maremia Sun 06-Jul-25 10:46:18

Are you actually criticising the layout of the post?
The point of doing that is....?
