Praying for the Uk

The Uk needs praying for. In my opinion.

I am as guilty as the next Christan probably, in neglecting this. Maybe more so.

Whichever side of Politics someone is on, I think most of us can agree that the Uk is in a bit of a state.

We have a lot to be thankful for. Gratitude for what we have makes us happier than moaning about what we haven't got.
This country is great in many ways. It has it's problems like many others but I'm glad it's my home.

Definitely.

Even if it's only peace of mind. That's a good result too.

This government is steadily working to improve public services - Sure Start mark 2 is on the way and youth services are to be revived.

The NHS is struggling but I have just paid nothing for a pacemaker, a stent and an ablation.

They are fighting the backlog of the chaos wrought by privatisation and need time to unpick this.

But I do not think the UK needs praying for. It needs celebrating - I am so frustrated that the government PR machine is doing such a bad job of trumpeting its reforms and leaves the negativity free reign.

By all means pray for the poor souls in the Middle East or in Ukraine. Or even the US where decency is being rapidly eroded and normal kind people are being quashed.

The UK is not without its problems and its rich/poor divide is a source for concern; but truly it is not all bad.

I am looking out on a soft misty morning with the daffodils and primulas in bloom and the hills in the background and the birds singing - secure in a small but comfortable home with sufficient to live on.

We need to celebrate the UK and all it has to offer sometimes.

Well said.

The media appear hell bent of continuing to rubbish Labour and so many are happy to accept and believe this.

Labour most definitely need a much stronger and more positive and visible PR department.

As for praying, if it brings people peace, so be it.

My prayers get longer and longer ..

A blessing is preferable to a cursing.

I don't think so.

A targeted and specific curse instantly relieves stress and anxiety. If it actually works, its totally gratifying.

Whatever turns you on, as they used to say.😄
I’d prefer a blessing any day.

I think it’s just the news media that are constantly telling us how bad things are so they can get a change of government.I don’t pray but do like to light candles in churches for some things. I don’t think my country needs a candle at the moment. Not if I compare it to Gaza sad.

I do have a spiritual life as a Quaker but not in a sort of person who will or ever could influence world events.

But the kind of comfort expressed by Fallingstar was perhaps something more simple and subtle at work. Some drawing of healing energy together by the ones who knew, loved and focussed on those ill or the carer, that stretches a little beyond well wishing. Beyond words after that really, tho so many have tried.

mumofmadboys Sun 08-Mar-26 18:35:51

Prayer is action.

merlotgran Sun 08-Mar-26 15:55:48

At least those who don’t support the Israeli government can take to the streets and protest. As can we in this country.
My prayers, such as they are, are for the thousands of victims of religious oppression.

Maremia Sun 08-Mar-26 15:48:29

Good works are prayer in action.

Maremia Sun 08-Mar-26 15:47:24

Absolutely Allira. Not everyone supports Netanyahu.

mum2three Sun 08-Mar-26 15:45:51

There is a general feeling of depression in this country right now. Everything seems hopeless and on the decline. It's up to us to fight back against this negativity. Those with low standards have been allowed to get the upper hand. It's reflected in the state of our streets, and the way our children are being influenced. Sitting on your backside and praying won't help. We need action.

Allira Sun 08-Mar-26 15:37:01

Those in the so-called Holy Land don’t exactly cover themselves in glory, do they?

The Holy Land encompasses more than just Israel and we can't tar all Israelis with the same brush as Netanyahu and his Government.

twiglet77 Sun 08-Mar-26 15:10:04

Those in the so-called Holy Land don’t exactly cover themselves in glory, do they?

Across the world, and ‘twas ever thus.

Religion has always been, and always will be, nothing but an excuse for men to behave disgracefully. I’ll neither ask an imaginary god to orchestrate change for the better, globally or personally, nor thank one for whatever small pleasure in my own day. Whose god anyway? It’s pretty obvious they couldn’t work together for the greater good!

I love the ritual of a C of E service, but only ever interpret it as theatre.

Silvergirl Sun 08-Mar-26 14:58:03

I am grateful most days that I live in such a safe and fair country. It could be an awful lot worse. The media often whips up the negatives to get a story. I would save my prayers for the long suffering people in countries such as Gaza, Iran, Sudan etc.

*Well, if I do go to church, which I admit is not often, the vicar prays for peace in all the trouble spots in the world and for the people living there. He prays that leaders may be given wisdom*

Not a lot of success yet it would seem .... sad

Well, it may have helped with some if not all.

A blessing is preferable to a cursing.

Why? Neither work.

Chocolatelovinggran Sun 08-Mar-26 14:42:45

I'm a churchgoer, and I agree with Luckygirl and Allira. We have, in Britain, so much to be thankful for.

I'm not under the delusion that a fairy in the sky is going to gratify my wishes.

^I think most of us can agree that the Uk is in a bit of a state.^

Is it?

Compared to many other countries right now I think we’re not doing too badly.
Maybe we should count our blessings instead.

This.

Lovely post Luckygirl3.

Yes - Luckygirl13 has summed up more or less how I feel.

Thank you Luckygirl13 for such a lovely, kind post.
