Peter spoke that to the crowd less than half a mile from the tomb where Jesus was buried. ‘God raised him from the dead,’ he said (verse 24). Everyone knew that the tomb was empty, and there was no adequate explanation for it except that Jesus had risen. Otherwise, Christianity would never have got off the ground.
