What is TEMU, is it safe to buy from them?

Adverts for temu keep intruding everywhere but I've been told its a Chinese firm, and advised not to use them.
I'm currently searching for a size 5x (!) sweater for a family member, it has to have a Vee neck, and I just can't find one anywhere unless I'm going to pay £100+ for it (and he's not THAT close a family member).
Every time I post a request for vee necked sweaters - up pops Temu!

A TV programme recently was talking about how ethical companies such as TEMU and Shein were (not at all). They said if you decide to use them do not buy electronic goods or children’s toys as they are quite possibly not safe.
Also recently in the news a student bought some clothes from Shein only to find a live Scorpion in the package!

there was a Panorama programme showing the problems with some of Temu Goods.. Now I don't have any dog in the fight because I buyfrom temu..some are rubbish, some are very good.. but Panorama showed that electrical goods were downright dengerous. they may look like the same items you can buy on the high street but they are most definitely not and could ause a major fire in your home or electric shocks. Equally ''silver'' and ''gold'' jewellery had huge levels of lead in them... and leather shoes leather clothing particularly children's leather jackets . and shoes contained extremely high levels of Toxins, This is also Shein and Aliexpress.. see this link... www.lemonde.fr/en/international/article/2024/08/14/shein-and-temu-products-found-to-contain-high-levels-of-toxic-chemicals_6715032_4.html#

be safe.. shop wisely...

I am really very very surprised at those defending these two companies I m not very well off compared to many on here but it would play on my mind so much if I did buy off them

Their human right are awful they are believed to use mainly the Uyghur people as slaves they want to remove them from the earth and have a Uyghur cleansing programme they are living in detention camps it’s not just about working longer hours than we allow it is much, much bigger than that
Yes you are right other companies, often big names, do use poor human rights but Temu and Shein are in a different league it’s not just about long hours, read up on it and see if you still feel the same
They want the Uyghur people off the earth they are the modern day African slaves and a lot of cotton is grown in the Uyghur region yu can’t justify it by saying you d rather someone had a job than starved to death they are dying in servitude, and they use children

I remember getting chastised on here for reusing an unfranked stamp My word

The goods come from many different areas of China and ‘the Chinese republic of Taiwan’ - their description. Look at the postmarks. Don’t believe everything you hear, it’s all about competition and putting your competitors down. Amazon doesn’t like them though they use the same manufacturers as do most.

BlueBelle Sat 09-Nov-24 14:04:19

I don’t believe everything I hear Nanna8 I ve read a lot of different reports
If you’re happy, good for you, I can’t be a part of it, nor could I be a part of selling African slaves if I d been around in that time.
Of course the goods come from various areas where their shipment warehouses are but that’s nothing to do with where they are made and who by nor the conditions
But you’re fine with it so no need for any further discussion really

Nope. I don't need or want anything so badly that I will use Temu or similar companies. Slave labour and unethical practice.

I’ve shopped with Temu without any problems but have you tried JD Williams, or Jaccamo? I used to buy my husband jumpers from them and he was a large man.

Never buy from Temu apart from being Chinese company if you get anything and want to return it you have to pay postage back to China which is extortionate. I avoid anything associated with China including Shein.

I bought a bed cover which I'm very pleased with.. wouldn't buy clothes from them as the returns if bad fit would be a problem.. always use credit card when buying online and delete after payment taken!

What is Temu's return policy? You have 90 days to make a free return with Temu - That part is important. You have 90 days from when you placed the order and NOT when your items arrive at your home. First returns from any order are absolutely free and shipping labels can be printed through your Temu account.14 Jul 2024

If it’s for a man, M&S has nice lambswool V neck jumpers for a lot less than £100.

00opsidia Wed 13-Nov-24 20:35:24

Not cool. I remember reading about someone who had a house fire because of buying a scooter battery on Temu. I wouldn't buy anything electronic from Temu.

Also wouldn't buy anything "leather" as it will be plastic or the leather will be from an animal that we would consider a pet. Jewelry with lead in sounds awful.

I bought what I thought were snow globes- turned out to be cardboard cutouts of a snow globe

Did they have a photo of the actual snow globes or was the description a bit unclear? I also can't understand how people write 5 star reviews and then end up with a poor quality product. I've ordered from Tema many times and was only disappointed once when the backpack I received was of absolutely terrible quality.

I’ve reported your comments ruby1962

How can a sweater give you Covid, ruby1962 ? Infection is by breath not by touch. I think you have reading the wrong kind of "medical" journalism.

The World Health Organisation says -
"Current evidence suggests that the virus spreads mainly between people who are in close contact with each other, for example at a conversational distance. The virus can spread from an infected person’s mouth or nose in small liquid particles when they cough, sneeze, speak, sing or breathe. Another person can then contract the virus when infectious particles that pass through the air are inhaled at short range (this is often called short-range aerosol or short-range airborne transmission) or if infectious particles come into direct contact with the eyes, nose, or mouth (droplet transmission).
The virus can also spread in poorly ventilated and/or crowded indoor settings, where people tend to spend longer periods of time. This is because aerosols can remain suspended in the air or travel farther than conversational distance (this is often called long-range aerosol or long-range airborne transmission).
People may also become infected when touching their eyes, nose or mouth after touching surfaces or objects that have been contaminated by the virus."
Nothing about sweaters or other clothes!

Crossd posts, Jaxjacky, both of us replying to one that was deleted while I typed.

Try Haul. Shein and Temu are fine though. We order a lot on them.
