Petra it was me where the thieves had used Amazon not Crosstitchfan and NO I had never used my credit card on Amazon ever, and never leave my details online
I very very rarely use a credit card I mainly had it for flights or large purchases, neither of which I have had in the last few years
It’s random
If a bank clerk can have it happen to them what he have we
The bank said it’s very common now, it must cost them millions

Crossstitchfan
Do you shop with Amazon and leave your card on the site.
If yes, take it off every time you buy something.

Happened to me two weeks or so ago it was used for a number of purchases going up in price all used on Amazon ( I ve never used my credit card on Amazon) and indeed rarely use it at all and it is tucked away where no one sees it no one has any access to it
The bank refunded the money immediately and sent me a new card and new number ( I contacted them by the way)
The bank lady told me it had happened to her too recently
She advised me to pay anything online with PayPal as it was safer she also told me your card can’t be read easily say at the desk if you have it in your hand (as the popular thought is) she said you d have to be literally hugging the person for a minute or more for them to be able to read your card with a reader

It’s a nasty feeling when it happens though

Our credit card provider does phone. The one time there was a call about an unauthorised transaction we called back, using a different phone, to the number on the back of our cards. By the time we spoke to their fraud department the card had been used four times, all abroad. All monies were refunded, for safety we both had new cards issued and on we went.

I hope you didn't give any bank account details over the phone!

I was going to ask if it really was the bank that contacted you. My bank once wrote to me about an apparently suspicious transaction. It was then up to me to contact them through their fraud phone line. They said they never phone.

Did the bank stop that card and send you a new one? If not, they should have done.

You say that you were contacted by your bank. I'd be suspicious of any phone call supposedly from a bank.

When I have had any issue with a credit card, such as MrB losing his losing his which is on the same account, the bank has always issued a new card for him.

I woke up this morning to find I had paid for seven Uber rides in New York with PayPal. Was a pain to sort out.

Happened to me few weeks ago they said it was because I never used it the scammers thought I wouldn’t check it. Hardly ever use it and it’s kept in my drawer.

Yesterday I was contacted by my bank who said they had intercepted unauthorised use of one of my Credit cards.
(The Bank had refunded the money). The strange thing was, the card used is locked in my safe. I only use it for occasional on-line purchases.
This made me think.
I didn’t know thieves could use my card if it was actually locked away, especially as I hadn’t used this particular card for weeks I had heard of card details being accessed through a handbag or pocket but I thought that to buy goods you either had to have the card on you, or at least, know the pin. The Bank told me this is not the case and the thieves could have accessed my details by hacking into sites where I had given them.
Maybe most people know this. I didn’t so I thought it was worth passing on.
They’re clearly out to get us!
