How do you know they're not road kill?

It is just another legal blood sport. TB csn be contracted cow to cow, other wild life too can have TB . No need for this culling

Well, it wouldn't look like road kill then - why do you think the badgers you see dead at the side of the road have been put there on purpose, cherrytree?

Derbyshire has been another hotspot, but it has been happening all over the country.

What also happens is not all badgers are killed by a single gun shot, msny crawl away injured and there are the poor creatures which are clubbed to death . Many who volenteer to carry out culling enjoy the killing

But why do they leave them by the side of the road? What's the purpose of that if it's going to be obvious they weren't killed by traffic?

If people are found to be breaking the law by killing badgers without a licence then they deserve to be prosecuted so there isn't really a connection with legal culling.

Yrears ago I accidentally hit a badger. I stopped and went to check if it was ok. It had managed to go In to the forest.

If all the dead badgers on side of the road are from road kill then there would be a lot of badly dented cars around.

I agree that a fully grown one is quite large and must be heavy - I've seen one in our garden at night looking for the sultanas we used to leave out for the birds.

I've never seen one by the side of the road, although there is plenty of other roadkill, unfortunately. I don't live in an area where badger culling is (legally) going on - not sure whether that makes a difference.

I just cannot understand the mindset of people who enjoy shooting animals.

Having a licence to shoot and kill these animals does not mean they are ace shots or don't get a thrill from it.

The point is with this is that it is willful destruction of a species with no scientific evidence to back it up. It is merely a sop to the farming lobby who worry about their profit.

I can see why it took a freedom of information request - not the sort of information the government would want to give to the general public.
