Storm Bert is expected to hit the UK this weekend

Jason Kelly is a Met Office Chief Meteorologist and said: “Storm Bert starts to arrive overnight on Friday and into Saturday, initially over Northern Ireland. As we go through the first part of Saturday morning, it will start to show its hand across Scotland, north Wales and northern England, with the potential for some heavy snowfall, especially over higher ground. Warnings are in place, including an amber warning for snow and ice for parts of Scotland.”

Storm Bert is also expected to bring heavy rain through Saturday and Sunday, especially in southern and western parts of the UK.

Exactly two hundreds years ago on the 22nd November 1824, a Great Gale hit the South Coast, causing death and destruction.

We are better prepared now than then so let's hope the storm this coming weekend is not as devastating as then.

Batten down the hatches. Hope everyone stays safe.

Gosh, I hate the wind, I live in a detached house at the very top of our street which is at the top of a hill and higher up than most of the other houses in the street and I get the wind from all sides.

When I go to bed I have to put my ear plugs in and hope for the best. The first thing I do in the morning is check the roof.

Roll on summer.

I'm quite sure that naming these storms just encourages them. grin

I hate the strong winds too I was once in a hurricane my then husband decided to go out after we were told NOT to leave our homes I was alone with a baby and terrified I could hear trees and other stuff banging down and flying around it went on for hours
High winds always bring that fear back temporarily

When storms get named, I feel personally victimised, like it’s out to get me and me alone! 👀 👀 👀

I used to take them in my stride but now I get very edgy even though we now live in an area better set up to cope with them.

It's ok if you don't have to go out.
Or might get flooded.
