Storm Claudia and the prolonged heavy rainfall has caused floods in S Wales, Monmouthshire, parts of Gloucestershire and Herefordshire.
150 mms of rain is predicted to fall in 24 hours.

I hope no-one has had their homes flooded and everyone is safe.

It has been a continuous day of rain and strong winds here in Oldham. Lots of reports of fallen trees and flying debris.
Definitely the worst storm we have experienced here on the edge of the Pennines for a long time.
Hope everyone is safe.

Storm Claudia apparently never made landfall on the British Isles and has whirled off somewhere over the Atlantic (or possibly in a teacup ) nevertheless sending sheets of rain our way.

Alexa mentioned a yellow warning in London for a couple of days, but although it was wet, no sheets of rain.

Driving to the hospital yesterday was horrendous driving through sheets of water.

Long train journey yesterday from north east to south west and no major problems.

Took off from Liverpool Airport yesterday afternoon and it was wild weather....very rocky take off

I drove from Oxfordshire to Kew yesterday. The M4 was a nightmare. Torrential rain and fog.

Dreadful floods round here. The river through the next village along burst its banks and is pouring through the streets and into the houses and pub.
The next town along is virtually closed - the high street is a river and coastguard have been out with boats rescuing people.
It is all a mess.

I’m in Margate, Kent.
Very mild here.
Misty and damp this morning.
No wind today or yesterday.
Rain yesterday was in short bursts.
No rain yet today.
We do seem to miss a lot of the weather here & very much have our own weather, which is something to do with having the sea on 3 sides

A major incident was declared in Monmouth with widespread flooding, including the main street.
Parts of the main A road through the Wye Valley are flooded, with trees down.

Hope you're ok, Luckygirl.

It has been shocking here but not as windy as I expected.

Monmouth is well and truly flooded. Dd just sent me a photo of the flooding into waitrose, the water is well up the windows. I also saw a photo from her house, she is high above the usk valley, there is immense flooding along the river. It happened very quickly, yesterday she was running along the river bank

We looked at a house in watery lane, in 2006. The lane name said it all and we never bought near Monmouth

It's not just Monmouth, these occurrences are happening more frequently in many places, karmalady.

If moving house, it's possible to look up the flood risk to check.

We have a Brook close by that was on flood warning earlier but has just been taken off, we are well above the area that could flood thank goodness.

Greenfinch Sat 15-Nov-25 11:14:51

Certainly in my area concerns are raised because new houses are still being built on known flood plains. It is asking for trouble.

Oh, Greenfinch, I despair because plans have been passed for houses to be built on flood plans here too.

Who passed them? Labour and the Greens.
Who was against? The Tories.

Strange, that!

Dreadful few days here in SWWales. Towns cut off, rivers flooding. Sun is out today. Don’t know about Storm Claudia never making landfall in the UK. Something large and very wet did .

Like a rain bomb here too, JamesandJon33!

It's brighter today but not sunny.

I saw a video this morning of Monmouth high street, it was like a river running through it , making it's way into shops...very frightening,,,,,hope everyone is safe

Monmouth has been destroyed

Luckygirl3 Sat 15-Nov-25 17:44:02

The videos from the local villages are even worse than in Monmouth.
I am lucky that my village had some drainage works done a few years ago and things have vastly improved, but the next village along has a "brook" running through and it has burst its banks. There are torrents running through the streets. I have never seen it this bad before.

Allira Sat 15-Nov-25 21:09:54

Some photos from the main street in Monmouth

Hoping you're dry and ok, Luckygirl

Monmouth has been destroyed

Of course it hasn't.
Monmouth people are more resilient than that.

Do you live in Somerset, karmalady?
