Hello gransnetters,

We're revamping our reviews section a bit, which will involve us looking closely at the categories (UK accommodation, baby equipment, cookery books) you can review products in. What are the products that you'd like to see other gransnetters' opinions on? What would you like to see rated and recommended? We'd love your feedback on this, or anything else about reviews that you think we should know.

The reviews section is here: www.gransnet.com/reviews

Have you added a review? What did you think?

It would be nice to see a mobility review section, the kind of stuff that can make the day easier for some people who have problems but are not totally incapable.
I have added a couple of reviews since I joined in May,mainly recipes and book review's and have also used some of the other recipes that had been posted which I found where very good indeed.

I would mostly look in this section for recommendations for places to stay and or events to visit/avoid. Although I have put a couple of reviews for beauty products on here I wouldnt really look these up before buying. I am unlikely to look at recipes, possibly gardening things but not technology as there are specialist sites for this. Thank you for asking

I echo susiecb. Places to stay, villas people may have to rent?, and events.
Other peoples experiences are a great help too.
Any general products universally used.
I leave baby equipment etc to my children to sort!

Thanks so much for your feedback so far - can I ask what you mean by 'events'? Are you thinking of plays, concerts etc?

It's good to know that you're less interested in baby equipment - does anyone else have any views on this?

Accommodation seems to be all-round popular, which is really useful to know.

How do other people feel about gardening equipment? (one area we don't have reviews on at the moment)

I would go along with glam but make it a bit wider, general aids for people with disabilities. I have in my time wasted a lot of money on aids that didn't work eg jar openers. I have now found one which works! Hooray!

favorite food products
clothing e.g. where can you get a pair of 3/4 leggings that stays up and does not go baggy at knees.
insurance companies

Yes Josie, events could be: Major art exhibitions (such as the Leonardo at the Nat Gallery)
Plays, so many advertised it can be useful to hear views from similar age groups.
What about restaurants in the larger cities around the country? If one visits a town it can be invaluable to have some suggestions of e.g. A small friendly eaterie, to try out as recommended by a GNetter!

I agree about leaving baby equipment to the parents - we'd only get it wrong if left to our own devices!

Following on from another thread - what about favourite apps etc?

Also, we might be Gransnetters but we are not just someone's gran so what about a review of how good we find different volunteering roles. I know some people have no idea what some volunteers do and, therefore, wouldn't know whether it would appeal to them.

Carol Fri 20-Jan-12 08:30:42

Yes, perhaps start another thread kitty? My career started with volunteering with social services and probation and I would have continued doing just that if I hadn't also needed an income. Fantastic experience.

Thanks so much for all these ideas - they're really useful and do keep them coming in.

By the way, MaggieP, we do actually have an eating and drinking out section in Reviews currently - have a look here www.gransnet.com/reviews/eating-drinking-out.

JessM Fri 20-Jan-12 09:29:17

There was a lot about volunteering on Gransnet a few months back. But a formal review section for volunteering might work.
I agree about baby equipment - parents these days tend to have views about what they want or what they think is the best model of this or that.

MaggieP Fri 20-Jan-12 14:29:22

Thanks Josie, apologies I hadn't seen the reviews! Will now peruse....

I suppose by events I mean craft, art, food fairs, steam ralleys that kind of thing. We have been to a few which charge high entrance fees and you really only get an hour of so entertainment out of them e.g. Melton Mowbray Food Fair in October which is a big do was also a big disappointment, the entrance fee was high £7 you could go back in if you went outside, the area cramped and overwhelmed by chutney stalls, few samples and poor hygiene. Not sure if I would go again - that kind of thing.

JosieGransnet (GNHQ) Mon 23-Jan-12 15:00:45

susiecb, we totally agree - those are the kind of things we'd certainly like to know - do you think it would fit in 'Days out'? We could certainly expand and split that section up a bit if everyone thought it would be helpful?

(Susie, please do add your review if you get a chance!)

jeni Mon 23-Jan-12 17:22:47

Re my previous contribution. Do you think a disability aids review section might be useful. People could post aids they found really good value and those which were rubbish?

JosieGransnet (GNHQ) Mon 23-Jan-12 17:31:11

Hi jeni - definitely sounds like something we should consider. (sorry should have mentioned before.)

Any more votes for this or any of the other suggestions would be very useful!

jeni Mon 23-Jan-12 17:34:08

Oooh, a personal message from Josie! I've come over all peculiar! blush

Butternut Mon 23-Jan-12 18:28:16

Yes, a vote for me for disability aids!

Well done Jeni for bringing this to GN's notice.

jeni Mon 23-Jan-12 20:28:15

buttet I am an expert on aids, partly through training, partly through my work and lastly through personal experience!
I would like to share my knowledge .smile

JosieGransnet (GNHQ) Mon 23-Jan-12 23:48:17

And we're sure others would like to benefit from it, jeni!

(that's two messages for you now, double blush)
