Do we have to

When reporting what looks like a dodgy posting, are we supposed to post "reported" on the site as well. I have reported a number of such postings recently, but didn't add anything to the thread they were on. GNHQ dealt with the dodgy posts but maybe that was because someone else reported them. confused

I've never noted on the thread that I've reported a dodgy post. Maybe it's a good idea though....would stop GNHQ getting multiple reports for same dodgy post?

Greatnan Fri 24-Feb-12 12:54:18

I got an e-mail from HQ to confirm that they had received my report.

Ditto. Yes – lots of people reporting the same thing would be a bit tiresome.

That's why I thought of starting the Dawn Patrol game. If you report it and then post "reported" no-one else has to bother. smile

Yes I've seen that you have been hot on the trail of various Jonathans.

Hi folks,

That's ever so considerate of you to think of little old us!

Our system doesn't make it too hard to work out when lots of people have reported the same thing, so if in doubt, chuck a report our way just in case. We look at every post that's reported anyway, so you'll always get a response.

You're not obliged to post on the thread, but if you'd like to, that's fine with us.

Three or four messages I have posted have not appeared on Gransnet. I do not think there has been anything in them to cause offence but I assume that Gransnet has a filter that throws out messages that contain words that it thinks might be offensive.

If/when this happens could the Gransnet admin people let the Gransnetter know it has happened and why because non-arriving posts may also be the sign of computer problems the senders end and knowing that would help the sender. If for some reason the message is inadvertantly offensive it would also help to know where one has overstepped a limit in order to avoid it in future.

Aaaah, we're back to the "quiet word" FlicketyB !

wotsamashedupjingl Fri 24-Feb-12 17:38:53

shock What did you put FlicketyB?!

I don't believe they've got any filters! they would have used 'em on mine

"That's ever so considerate of you to think of little old us!"

[sarky emoticon definitely required] grin

FlicketyB Don't bite my head off but sometimes I have thought I had posted something but all I had done was preview. It's very easy to overlook the "post message"button.

kittylester Sat 25-Feb-12 14:54:38

absentgrana been there, done that, thought I was the only one!blush

bagitha Sat 25-Feb-12 15:42:58

I've done that too, several times. grin

GeraldineGransnet (GNHQ) Mon 27-Feb-12 09:21:59

FlicketyB, just to clarify, we don't have any filters and we don't delete posts unless they are reported and we agree they contravene our guidelines. See here www.gransnet.com/info/netiquette for full details - but basically a post has to break the law, be deeply offensive or be advertising to merit deletion. Hope that helps.

I have had this problem too. It took me 4 attempts for my knicker wetting incident to actually appear as a post, and I don't think even I would make the mistake of hitting preview 3 times! (especially as I usually forget to preview at all, hence the typos)

kittylester Mon 27-Feb-12 19:48:11

Maybe HQ had filtered an posting about knicker wetting- it could be upsetting for some people!

FlicketyB Fri 16-Mar-12 14:59:25

Back after an unavoidable break. I do not usually use preview and press post with some care, which of course doesnt exclude the occasional senior moment. But as Phoenix says that she has also had a problem.....

The thing that drives me to drink is partially writing a submission, going back a page or two to check a message on the thread and then finding that leaving the page with the submission deletes it. However, once I realised the problem I have done my best to avoid it.

Copy before going back, then paste when you return.
