As you know we will be celebrating our first birthday on 5th May - and to say thank you for making it a really special year we have put together a fabulous goodie box as a gift for one lucky Gransnetter.

All you have to do to enter is post on this thread telling us your favourite Gransnet moment from the last year.

The prize includes chocolate from Montezuma's Great British Pudding range, a bottle of No.3 gin and some fabulous books and the winner will be picked at random on Monday 7th May.

How could I have forgotten to mention the lovely prize of a luxurious weekend at Thoresby Hall? Thank you Gransnet, you gave me and my friend just the tonic we needed to get through the winter. x x x x x x x

The competitions are best. Have managed to win a couple of the books.

jingl I am utterly and totally confused now. It doesn't take much. But you have made me laugh so much I just choked on my tea. So this is probably another of my favourite moments on gn grin grin

imjingl Thu 26-Apr-12 21:32:51

No it wasn't him Nightowl! That was another thread. hmm

It was somebody called mysteryman. BUT IT WASN'T ME!! grin grin

glassortwo Thu 26-Apr-12 21:29:40

imjingl Thu 26-Apr-12 21:26:22

*I'd better have the choccies Glass. You don't want to go putting weight on do you? grin

I remember that poem so well because we lost my lovely nephew a couple of months ago, and every poem or piece of prose I read had such poignant and significant messages for our family. Thanks again phoenix flowers

greenmossgiel Thu 26-Apr-12 20:26:04

Phoenix, flowers

Not a favourite moment as such (there have been too many to choose from!) but the positive feedback from many Gransnetters to the poem I posted that we included at my 19 year olds sons funeral.

I had so many PM's from those that had lost a partner/husband, a son/daughter and some that had lost a grandchild.

It seemed to strike a chord with so many, and it is a lovely, uplifting poem.

I would like to add that I didn't write the poem myself, and it was (I believe) part of the service for the Queen Mother, but it is a very special poem, that encapsulates all that the person that has gone would (I feel) wish for.

nightowl Thu 26-Apr-12 19:53:29

not for the first time Faye grin

Faye Thu 26-Apr-12 19:46:49

Mmmm a romantic, mystery man on a house boat might have been fun nightowl. Maybe you really missed the boat this time! smile

nightowl Thu 26-Apr-12 19:33:21

Was mysteryman someone living on a houseboat??? I missed that. He must have sailed away then, the story of my life (sigh)

Sorry jingl I know you get the blame for everything but in this case at least it was a nice thing. Please accept my apologies and a large bunch of flowers

glassortwo Thu 26-Apr-12 19:28:40

Mmm Gin only thing jingle is I'll cry, what do you want if I win grin

harrigran Thu 26-Apr-12 19:23:52

I joined in May last year and I can honestly say I have never laughed and cried as much in my whole life.
The special times for me are when Grans announce the newest member of their family.
Long may we continue wine

imjingl Thu 26-Apr-12 19:11:39

Is that five, or six, goes I get now?

imjingl Thu 26-Apr-12 19:10:02

It was somebody living on a flppin' house-boat!!!

I'm all for dry land!

nightowl Thu 26-Apr-12 19:03:54

The highlight for me was getting a valentine's card for the first time in my life, from mysteryman who seems to have since disappeared into the ether! Ah well you can never rely on a man to stick around (still not convinced it wasn't jingl)

Other highlights: finding support when I need it, people to share my happiness with when good things happen, and laughing till the tears run down my cheeks at Greatnan and others' jokes.

I have found some kindred spirits, made good friends, and had some thought-provoking debates.

But overall the best bit for me is being able to sometimes forget I am a gran, or a mum, or a worker; but remember the girl I used to be and just have fun and be as silly as I like smile

GoldenGran Thu 26-Apr-12 18:58:37

Mine was the carol singing,it was lovely hearing the v oices and try ing to put faces to them. All the moments of sharing the joys and the heartaches, feeling part of a big group,it's a very special place. The next good moment will be when I finally get my finger out and learn how to post photos on my profile.

Standing at the end of the lane
Not searching for a plane
I didn't make a fuss
Looking up for the Gransnet bus
I had to get a grip
That there was to be no trip
We had all been so gay
Planning our virtual holiday
It had been so much fun
Writing about what could be done
Travelling the world with some nutty grans
Planning where we could get the best tans
I felt sadness and sorrow
But hey there was always tomorrow
There would be more laughs you can bet
With the funny grans from Gransnet. smile

I love that I can ask a question on your site and get an answer so quickly.Have recommended to all my friends who are "grannie" material.Happy birthday x

yogagran Thu 26-Apr-12 18:26:07

Like jeni my daughter told me that I would like this site and she was absolutely right! Hours of fun, support, friendship, the feeling of knowing that I'm not alone in my worries and fears. Here's to the next year and thanks a million GN flowers

POGS Thu 26-Apr-12 17:47:52

I can't add much really as I have just joined gransnet recently. I have to say though the topic 'THIS MADE ME LAUGH' was so much fun to read on what had been a miserable day it made me feel I had made a really good move joining up. I love the kind words that are given when needed and the banter I hope to be a part of in the future. Happy birthday

jeni Thu 26-Apr-12 17:45:56

My daughter told me to try this site, of course I always obey her! And I am so glad I did. I have made such marvellous friends on here. You all cheer me up when I'm down. I've only to think of jing to end up rol
Ing on the floor, biting the carpetgrin
I think the best bits have been the parties and don't forget the march! ( can anybody remember what we were marching for?)
And we mustn't forgetgreatnan's marvellous funny stories.

A very happy birthday and peace and goodwill to all.
Long may gransnet continuesunshine

Jacey Thu 26-Apr-12 17:29:52

The virtual parties are special ...in particular the Hallow'een one! When I got back home, on my broomstick ...one of Bagitha's cats had hidden in my cauldron!! It wasn't until the next party that I could return the dratted thing!! grin

imjingl Thu 26-Apr-12 17:22:15

Glass, do you think we get an extra chance every time we post on this thread? If I win it, you can have the gin. smile
