Perhaps there should be a forum for anti-religion posts where vitiol and hatred can be kept in one place

Leaving the 'Religion and Spirituality' forum to be used be used for just that.

Bored now.

Since non-believers in the supernatural almost never initiate discussion, but only respond to the claims of believers, there would be no point in a separate, ring-fenced forum for them. I understand that it would be more cosy for the believers if they could all agree with one-another in their own forum, and not be expected to actually think about the matter, but that would be yet another kind of religious privilege, wouldn't it?

You all have the right to believe whatever you will, and I respect that right. But I have the right not to believe it, and not to respect the actual belief.

j08 Just because you start a thread doesn't mean you can decide where it goes or when it stops. We have also seen our original postings wander off in all kinds of directions.

hmm

Site Stuff is a forum like any other. It's not a direct line to GNHQ but a place to discuss matters to do with the way Gransnet works – discuss, like any other forum.

Jo, not part of the on-going discussion but I really enjoyed the threads you started on Saints' Days. When I was at (a church)school we learnt about various saints, in assemblies on the appropriate day, and it is great to be reminded of them. I am not religious at all but felt they added something to the day.

Enjoy your tidying soop

soop Mon 25-Feb-13 13:49:51

...back to washing the dishes...

Ana Mon 25-Feb-13 13:49:31

Thank you soop. smile

soop Mon 25-Feb-13 13:48:44

Ana, I must have misunderstood. I therefore apologise. smile

j08 Mon 25-Feb-13 13:45:02

Oh I think it was the other thread. Where they think it could have been libellous. Sorry smile

I expect it was the Pope who was libelled.

Never mind.

j08 Mon 25-Feb-13 13:41:43

I can't see anything libellous. #tryingtofrightenushmm

soop Mon 25-Feb-13 13:41:35

Libellous!? confused

Ana Mon 25-Feb-13 13:39:53

That's OK jingl - didn't get me anywhere, did it? confused

Ana Mon 25-Feb-13 13:38:51

soop I did not accuse Bags, or anyone else, of being untruthful! angry My reply to absent was out of sequence because others were posting at the same time.

j08 Mon 25-Feb-13 13:37:51

Any more last words?

j08 Mon 25-Feb-13 13:37:24

BTW Ana I'm sorry I buggered off last night to watch the telly and left you to it.

Really sorry.

Bags Mon 25-Feb-13 13:35:42

That's true, janthea grin. Phew!

janthea Mon 25-Feb-13 13:33:04

Bags I didn't say that THIS thread was nasty. It was just a general comment about threads that DO get nasty. It can't be nasty as I'm still posting on it!!! grin

soop Mon 25-Feb-13 13:29:59

ana Bags is truthful...she says it, as it is. I respect her wisdom and reasoning and ability to express opinions that for some [including me] find difficult to articulate.

j08 Mon 25-Feb-13 13:29:18

Ten minutes to find it!

j08 Mon 25-Feb-13 13:28:45

OMG! They are going to delete it because there are some potentially libellous posts on it!!! shock

Wasn't me!!!

Bags Mon 25-Feb-13 13:23:53

Sorry, but I'm not going to sit back and be told that criticising organised religion and religious institutions is nasty. So far as I can see there is nothing nasty on this thread.

whenim64 Mon 25-Feb-13 12:57:01

Well said Janthea. Giving oxygen to deteriorating threads never leads to any good hmm
