But how do you define a 'troll'? Surely not everyone who stirs things on this or any other forum is necessarily one? They might just be having an off-day, or be bored...

And who does the monitoring - other members or the moderators, because the latter don't always seem to be available!

jane is right, there are sometimes some clever and manipulative trollers on forums who need careful monitoring.

No Ana.
Very obvious trolling is quickly dealt with, but a clever troll won't be so obvious and that's more difficult.

Elegran Sat 10-Aug-13 13:48:14

Yes, by banning the troller.

Fairly obvious trolling is soon sorted, Jane!

On the other hand j08 Gransnet could be in danger if losing regular posters because they get fed up of fairly obvious trolling and assorted mischief-making.
Moderators have a fine line to tread.
Just saying.

Mentioning no names of course!

.....when the new Editor of GN takes over they don't go too mad with the red ink.

Gransnet could be in danger of losing the small amount of zing it has at the moment. hmm
