Is this a forum for normal everyday women of the 21st century, or a cosy little space for older ladies straight from the local church hall and with their own sweet reminisces of finishing school or, at the very least memories of the school hockey field and sewing lessons with the nuns?

It would appear that under the new regime, in the soon to be absence of the slightly more broadminded Geraldine, we are not allowed to use even the most inoffensive of Anglo Saxon words. Like FUCK.

Are those amongst us who came here from anything goes Mumsnet supposed to have turned into virtuous beings overnight? How? Why?

Is n' t it ageist to allow younger women to swear, but not older ones?

hmm

There was certainly talk of wolves on one of the climate change threads...
(Real wolves, that is.)

thatbags Wed 28-Aug-13 13:49:07

However, it wouldn't surprise me if jings wasn't really referring to wolves at all, and that that's why there were complaints.

petallus Wed 28-Aug-13 13:46:48

grin

thatbags Wed 28-Aug-13 13:45:54

I want to know which wolves.

They do, of course. Wolves, I mean. Just like other sexual animals.

petallus Wed 28-Aug-13 13:42:09

Incidentally, every time I see the word 'fracking' I think it would be a good substitute for the other word.

petallus Wed 28-Aug-13 13:32:20

j08 how depressing that two people complained because you said 'fucking'.

I wonder if you would have been told off if nobody had complained.

Back to cakes!

Now I'm off to post on a new thread about my outrageous behaviour in Waitrose car park this morning.

Sel Wed 28-Aug-13 13:13:30

Certainly not me Ana I'm hopeless round a mixing bowl grin I have 16 coming on Sunday from Age UK for afternoon tea and I'm panicking. It'll end up being a re-run of school fetes when I roughed up M & S cakes in an attempt to make them look home made.

Ana Wed 28-Aug-13 13:01:14

Hmm...that must be it then! Come on, own up, who's baking industrial quantities of cupcakes every day to ferry over to GNHQ...? grin

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Wed 28-Aug-13 12:54:32

Oops - I clearly forgot the bit about no poster having any more influence than anyone else. But that is absolutely the case* Everyone is equal and no one is more equal than anyone else (now picturing George Orwell spinning in his grave)

*(unless they make us cake on a daily basis of course - we are only human after all cupcake cupcake cupcake)

j08 Wed 28-Aug-13 12:47:37

Gordon Bennett! Can't read this lot!

Had an email from Charlotte telling me off for calling some wolves "fucking". They had 2 complaints.

Ainsworth stuff off

Ana Wed 28-Aug-13 12:44:29

Elegran, it was not me who raised the quesion of some members having more influence than others.

Bags, no, I don't.

Elegran Wed 28-Aug-13 12:36:45

Ana Brenda My point was - If you know nothing, then say nothing but Brenda does have a way to get a little taste of typical previous posts to base her observations on, if she wishes to do so.

Brenda, your posts are admirably grammatical and well-typed. Your dyslexia is not hindering you at all.

whenim64 Wed 28-Aug-13 12:36:32

grin Sel. I like using the hosepipe, or having a good bonfire. Has the same effect! smile

Sel Wed 28-Aug-13 12:32:16

I've had an hour wielding my Karcher machine, everything is clean, including the cat and I'm feeling strangely calm and benign smile

janeainsworth Wed 28-Aug-13 12:28:57

I've just read Geraldine's farewell thread telling us that Cari and Lara are taking over as joint editors.
That seemed to make the OP seem even more like the naughty schoolgirl seeing how far she could go in annoying the new teacher.
Except I wouldn't have said Year 10 - more like junior 2.

Elegran Wed 28-Aug-13 12:24:47

Time to go for the shower I was planning to have after my breakfast . . .

thatbags Wed 28-Aug-13 12:24:27

Do you have real dogs, ana?

Ana Wed 28-Aug-13 12:21:34

Or was that your point, Elegran? confused

Time to walk the metaphorical dogs, I think...

Elegran Wed 28-Aug-13 12:21:20

She can judge by the general tone of their undeleted posts, and the reaction of moderate posters to the ones which have vanished, and extrapolate from that.

thatbags Wed 28-Aug-13 12:21:10

I think Jess is right and j08 just got her big wooden spoon out again and is now laughing into her coffee wink

Ana Wed 28-Aug-13 12:19:16

Except that a lot of their later posts were deleted, so Brenda can hardly make an informed judgement on whether or not they kept to the guidelines.

thatbags Wed 28-Aug-13 12:19:03

HQ deletes posts that insult or attack another poster or posters directly, or ones which advertise. That's it. That's the rule. So if a post has been deleted, that's why. What could be simpler?

So if you just come on GN and find a post or thread has been deleted, then it's just tough luck if you missed it and want to know exactly what was in it – unless someone tells tou privately of course.

Why should HQ waste time telling us the same thing every time they need to delete something. The reason is always that it broke GN rules.

What I marvel at is their good humoured patience in the face of all the silly complaints.

Elegran Wed 28-Aug-13 12:16:11

Brenda As you do not know what has gone on, why are you commenting? If you search the forums using the usernames of those who are banned (or rather, said to be banned, as it is a private matter between them and GN), you can find their previous posts and judge for yourself whether they kept to the guidelines.

To help you search, here are the names of the two who are no longer, apparently posting, and are said to have been banned. They are HunterF and Granjura.

Then you will know some background facts and personalities to help you.

JessM Wed 28-Aug-13 12:12:09

Good posts elegran as usual and beautifully typed.
I swear like a trooper in some company. And do my best to avoid doing so in others. e.g. I try not to swear in front of MIL, bless her.
In real life i occasionally swear when I wish I hadn't - e.g. when my hand luggage bag fell open depositing all its contents onto the floor, just as i was saying goodbye to the grandchildren before getting into the airport transport bus. blush
To be honest JO it feels to me like the bad girl in the back row in Year 10 is in full rebellious mode at the moment and trying to stir up the class yet again.
I've said it a couple of times before over the last 2 years, but maybe worth saying again. GN is like a big women's centre with different groups in different rooms. They have signs on the door saying what is going on. Plenty of room for a social group, a support group, a serious discussion group etc. But works best for everyone if there is respect for all users of the centre and for individual groups. You wouldn't rush into the philosophy group and start practicing your dance moves in real life. Or start talking about the meaning of life in the laughter group. There may be swearing about a 3rd party in some groups - but swearing at other members, who may not be used to it, would not engender mutual respect.

Ana Wed 28-Aug-13 12:11:06

I wasn't proposing to approach them myself! I said 'if'...
No, of course they wouldn't ignore anyone's genuine concerns. But doesn't mean they would reveal all! grin
