I mean, when talking to other adults? As in, "Still thinking about our tummies...".

When my now 8-year-old GS was a year old, every bird was a duck; when one of my GDs was little, everything in the sky - including the moon - was a plane. Both are now perfectly normal, articulate speakers.

It must confuse children to be told that the sleek Eurostar whizzing by is a 'puffer-train' - goes 'choo-choo'...

Picking back up on jantheas post about baby talk my 1yr old Dgs says woof for any 4 legged animal of dog or cat size.
I think it comes from hearing the noise the animal makes, or us going through a book saying look there's the cow it says moo the sheep says baa etc etc.

I do not have any problem with that early baby talk. As long as parent does not persist they will quickly learn the correct words. So if he at first says woof when looking at a cat its not right to keep correcting when a child is first talking. Woof or Moo shows they are getting the overall picture about how to communicate.

wurzel perhaps she was a Brownie in her youth, aren't they encouraged to do a good deed every day? [innocent face]

Just read all the posts- hilarious!
I'll add that my Mum called No.2
our 'good deed'-a bit weird, I know.

We had tummy pork slow roasted with chili and fennel last night - it was delicious. I think I might draw the line at udders phoenix shock

Anne58 Wed 18-Sept-13 19:27:39

I have an authentic Indian recipe for a particular dish that says it can also be made from udders, but to increase the cooking time.

(Sorry, it was the reference to crackling with nipples that reminded me.)

Oh yes. Those too. #gloucesteroldspot?

It's the stiff hairs that put me off especially if they are black!

Pork 'tummy' crackling has nipples. It really put me off crackling (not for long though, I just check for nipples.

My late uncle used to say 'Chimblies' for chimney and Thilthy for Filthly

Jendurham Tue 17-Sept-13 20:20:53

My GP used to say it to my husband, man to man. I do not think he has a different way of talking to men and women.

j08 Tue 17-Sept-13 18:58:26

Yes Galen. But that is a woman to a man. I meant man talking to man.

hmm

Greatnan Tue 17-Sept-13 18:48:22

Galen - did you tell patients to 'pop' behind the screen', 'pop off their clothes' and 'pop up on the bed'? grin
I once told an optician I was myopic and he asked if I had studied ophthalmology! I wanted to hit the condescending so and so.

Galen Tue 17-Sept-13 18:20:02

j08 hate to disillusion you, but we do!

If this was a picture thread, I could post a photo of a very impressive dish of pork tummy that I had on Sunday evening in Wales!

It was huge and totally mouthwatering.
It went straight in my belly!

Ana Tue 17-Sept-13 17:55:07

Bet they don't say "let me feel your guts" either! grin

j08 Tue 17-Sept-13 17:45:36

I'll bet doctors don't say, "let me feel your tummy" when examining a man. #patronising

j08 Tue 17-Sept-13 17:43:46

What actually is "gut rot". And exactly where are your guts? confused

Poppikok Tue 17-Sept-13 17:33:59

Stomach dancing doesn't have the same ring as belly dancing though, does it?

kittylester Tue 17-Sept-13 15:35:08

We are having pork tummy tomorrow phoenix, as per Nigella, and whatever you call it, it's fabulous!

Hope you had an enjoyable day! grin

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Tue 17-Sept-13 15:29:34
