I know the "come back Jingle" thread meandered on and some people became quite agitated, but can someone please explain why the thread has now been deleted? I have read worse on other threads and despite the note "message from GNHQ" I am unable to see any explanation.
Some of us are not on site every 10 minutes and to come back and find something has gone without rhyme or reason is confusing!! confused

Anyone who works for commercial radio or TV knows that the advertisers pay their salaries. That's why they get spectacularly sacked if they say or do something to damage the advertising revenue.

We don't get paid, we're just a captive audience for advertisements (not that I look at them much.)

If some of the comments we post are deemed 'bad for business' that's because we've been around the block a bit and don't intend spending our old age retirement biting our tongues.

I realise there are quidelines and have always tried to observe them but sometimes some things just have to be said.

Coming over with you, kitty!

thatbags Mon 21-Oct-13 10:52:51

If what jess suggests is true, then I suggest to HQ that when they delete a thread because it is deemed "bad for business", they just say so.

On the other hand, it hardly matters what they say since their comments are deleted too confused

I'd still prefer up front straightforwardness though.

Please.

Been away all weekend and no idea what's happened, but guessing that jingl has left pro tem?

kittylester Mon 21-Oct-13 10:15:18

Sorry, that was not aimed at Jess, as I'm sure you realise. Nor was it aimed at any one particular poster just at all the posters who pertpetuate all the silliness. It is getting to a sad state if one can't look at any thread, however innocent looking, without wondering if it is going to descend into pettiness.

I'm off to soop's kitchen, unless it's got silly there as well in which case I'm going off to kitty's kitchen - which would be no bad thing! thlblush

bluebell Mon 21-Oct-13 10:15:15

Aka - well good luck with that one!

kittylester Mon 21-Oct-13 10:11:28

I hesitate to take on jinlge's mantle but 'FFS' drop all the sniping, backbiting and point scoring. thlangry

Jess you have expressed exactly my view - thank you.

Goodness dear Ana , POGS abd Aka appeared to have posted the exact same sentiments as me without stimulating the exact same response from you. I do so wonder why!

This post as been reported. I, for one, am sick and tired if these shift remarks from this poster....implying what? That we are in cahoots, trolls? 'I do do wonder why?'

What a nasty suspicious mind you must have.

bluebell Mon 21-Oct-13 09:37:31

Jess - on boring train journey so have started 2 proper threads- second one could encourage law firms to sponsor us! Perhaps now when staring new thread we could suggest what type of sponsors it might be attractive to? Oh dear just having very wicked thoughts will go back to paperwork!

thatbags Mon 21-Oct-13 09:30:41

My post leapfrogged yours, elegran.

thatbags Mon 21-Oct-13 09:30:09

Yep.

Don't see why HQ can't just say that themselves though instead of pussyfooting around about being dizzy. Straight talk, please, HQ.

Elegran Mon 21-Oct-13 09:29:54

I have a suspicion that they lost an advertiser who had sponsored a thread and then had their product rubbished comprehensively. Their own fault, you may say, if a lot of forthright Gransnetters did not like it, but it does not encourage cash flow to kill the goose that lays the golden eggs.

annodomini Mon 21-Oct-13 09:27:06

Very well said, Jess.

Iam64 Mon 21-Oct-13 09:25:12

well said JessM

JessM Mon 21-Oct-13 09:01:34

My sympathies entirely with GNHQ. They run this site "at a loss" as one of them posted over the weekend. In other words it is subsidised by Mumsnet advertising revenue. Without that subsidy there would be no staff and no site.
It is free to users. The users are not customers, shareholders, or owners - they are the beneficiaries of a free service. Our rights as individuals posting anonymously on the Internet are not that clear in law I suspect.
I assume GNHQ would like it to pay its own way. If it is full of threads in which members moan about the way it is being managed then it is not going to attract advertisers is it? If you were in charge of advertising for a national company, would you want to advertise if the first thing you saw was some of these tedious threads?

bluebell Mon 21-Oct-13 08:08:49

LizG-confused

LizG Mon 21-Oct-13 08:05:58

Just realised you can't follow backposts on profiles, I thought you could.

LizG Mon 21-Oct-13 07:59:43

bluebell is it me or do we only see you on a few specific threads these days? Difficult to judge because you are not dressed in blue.

bluebell Mon 21-Oct-13 07:07:35

Goodness dear Ana , POGS abd Aka appeared to have posted the exact same sentiments as me without stimulating the exact same response from you. I do so wonder why!

Ceesnan Mon 21-Oct-13 06:25:07

Yes, I made the own goal comment, and think this could be another one. Since when has a thread going round in circles broken the GN guide lines?

Faye Mon 21-Oct-13 03:47:53

Ours is not to reason why
Ours is but to do or die confused

Faye Mon 21-Oct-13 03:26:56

Grace I have pm you.

Aka grin

hmm Starting to wonder which thread is next to get the chop.

POGS Mon 21-Oct-13 00:25:42

NannaAnna

That sounds perfectly sensible to me. I t would be a good compromise wouldn't it.

NannaAnna Mon 21-Oct-13 00:16:49

On many forums it is possible to disable further posts and simply state 'This topic is now closed'.
Much simpler, and saves this type of thread developing about mysterious deletions!
