We've been contacted by the No More Page 3 campaign to ask if we'd like to be added to their list of supporters, so we thought we'd put it to gransnetters to tell us what you think about the campaign.

The campaign started in the summer when Lucy Holmes found she couldn’t stop thinking about the fact that the largest female image in The Sun was of a young woman showing her breasts for men, even though Jessica Ennis had just won her gold Olympic medal.

We'd like to know your thoughts on the campaign, if you support it and your reasons behind it - and if you do support the campaign, if you've already signed the petition.

I agree nightowl, it gives the lie to those who say feminism is a spent force. What is surprising is how much resistance there is to those who speak out about the objectification of women. The way Clare Short was treated was dreadful, but there's been a spate of recent abusive/aggressive and threatening posts on Twitter to younger women who dare to criticise misogyny.

Clare Short oznan in the 1980s. She was vilified, insulted in the press and in the HOC and treated appallingly. But she speaks warmly of the support she received from ordinary women. Thank goodness the campaign has been taken up by the next generation, who deserve our support.

Didn't some MP try to get this banned years ago? I totally agree and have signed the petition.

Another one supporting this campaign, and yes, gransnet should support it

I can't believe we are still having to fight this misogyny and objecification of women in 2014. Of course it is right that gransnet should support this campaign.

Yes, I have signed ... boobs are not news... over 50% of the population have them! So we do not need them bared in 'newspapers'!

goldengirl Thu 20-Feb-14 18:36:40

Signed. Noticed that Russell Brand is backing the campaign which rather surprised me for some reason

Ana Thu 20-Feb-14 18:35:43

It's just occurred to me that even if for some strange reason someone on here didn't support this campaign, they'd hardly dare say as much. So of course all the responses are going to be 'yes'! grin

absent Thu 20-Feb-14 18:20:24

JessM Thu 20-Feb-14 17:32:52

Yes, removing these images from the news stand would be a start.

Stansgran Thu 20-Feb-14 17:26:39

I had already signed. Gransnet should support this .with all the easy access to porn on the web I'm afraid it's too late.

Audrey01 Thu 20-Feb-14 17:23:25

grannyactivist Thu 20-Feb-14 16:56:10

Yes. I've been an individual supporter of this campaign almost since it started.

Lightside Thu 20-Feb-14 16:54:29

A no-brainer. Of course we should support a campaign that seeks to end the gross objectification of women in the UK's biggest selling newspaper. We owe it to every generation of girls and boys, women and men.

whenim64 Thu 20-Feb-14 16:43:20

Yes, I signed it a while back. It's time the page 3 era was dead and buried. Riles me when I see reports of assaults on women and children next to females depicted as sex objects.
