A brilliant idea from Galen...

So as many of you will know, following on from the whole selfie phenomenon, Galen volunteered to do her own pose to raise money (and awareness) for research into cancer. (You can find the original thread HERE

That got us thinking, and in consultation with Galen we have come up with the idea of doing our very own Calendar Girls style calendar. To raise money (and we are happy for people to decide which charity). To raise awareness (ditto). And also to turn on its head the idea that older people (and one person we spoke to who is working to get "older" people online is targetting those above 45...) cannot be internet savvy and up to speed with the latest technology.

So - classic poses with any bits that need hiding (smile) hidden not with the obvious cakes and flowers but with smart phones, lap tops, tablets, e readers etc.

Galen has laid claim to the Rokeby Venus with a Mac Air instead of a mirror. Now all we need is 11 other gransnetters to volunteer too (groups welcome!)

There will be nothing on show that you don't want on show. Logistics are being logisticised (is that a word?!) so do pick a pose and join the fun...

Hi kittylester and Dragonfly1 smile

So pleased you like the idea. I've actually moved the conversation over to a thread to make it easier to find.
Thanks for commenting so swiftly!

Good idea.

Morning Gigi

I think that's a brilliant idea! Especially the bit about keeping your clothes on! grin

GigiGransnet (GNHQ) Thu 08-May-14 11:08:25

Morning everyone!
We had a chat about this calendar idea again recently and think we've come up with a nice alternative idea for a photography project for gransnetters.

We loved the idea of 'what advice would you give your teenage self' that came up in a thread a while back, and thought we could look into creating a series of portraits on that subject. To illustrate the advice we would create current (fully clothed!) portraits of gransnetters alongside their younger self. We are looking into exactly how we might do it in terms of style and logistics. But, of course, this would only work if you all liked the idea and agreed that it would showcase the wonderful wisdom and experience of gransnetters in the right light.
Would love to know your thoughts!

I think something that shows the diversity of gransnet members would be good - from ordinary to out of the ordinary. Something to challenge the stereotype as shown on that Shreddies ad.

Glad the idea of a naked calendar seems to be fading - I wouldn't be able to participate as (a) I hate having my photo taken and (b) I wouldn't want to frighten the horses (as my dear old grandmother used to say!)

If we're to have a T- shirt can it have a V-neck?

You won't see Galen's pearls with a round one.

Aka Sat 12-Apr-14 10:19:17

Hop for Life?

DebnCreme Sat 12-Apr-14 09:27:50

The idea of a teeshirt would be great but sadly Race for Life would be difficult - one leg could run (a bit) but the other would fail miserably sad.

Mamie Sat 12-Apr-14 09:18:42

I should have added that the Race for Life distance is only 5km and you can run, walk or dance round it. The one I will do is literally a walk in the park. grin

jcdoh Sat 12-Apr-14 08:58:35

forgot to add - the idea given here by Mamie, is what I was referring too.

jcdoh Sat 12-Apr-14 08:54:04

nice idea anyone taking it up ?

JulieGransnet (GNHQ) Thu 10-Apr-14 18:39:03

Hi, Galen.

I'll point the rest of the team in the direction of your thread, so someone will get back to you as soon as they can.

I thought your tea towels were fab by the way smile

Galen Thu 10-Apr-14 18:22:18

Actually, why don't we have Gransnet T shirt?
Could be used on all sort of occasions?
GNHQ over to you!

Galen Thu 10-Apr-14 18:20:15

Nfk
Reminds me of a cartoon of an old man on a Zimmer frame pointing at a a tortoise!
He's yelling "stop him! He's getting away",
I know how the old bloke feels!

Galen Thu 10-Apr-14 18:17:46

I'd do the aged archery, Thatbags can only do early middle aged archery!

NfkDumpling Thu 10-Apr-14 18:07:26

I'm with Biker.
What about Wrinkly Riding (horse riding that is), Senile Sailing (I could do that), Doddery Dog Walking (several assorted dogs + Zimmer frame), Aged Archery, Pensioner Potholing, Batty Biking .........! grin

Mamie Mon 07-Apr-14 12:31:01

As a completely different idea, which would be much easier to organise, how about a Gransnet contingent at people's local Race for Life.
raceforlife.cancerresearchuk.org/index.html
Sort of combination of charity fundraising, positive image of older women and a local meet-up.
I shall be coming to the UK to do the race with my DD and DGDs, but I will be walking rather than running. We could even have a special Gransnet sash over our pink t-shirts!

I'm sorry Galen if you thought some comments were negative and hope you weren't upset by them because one of them was mine. It was my opinion, no worse or better than any other and not intended to hurt.

Ana Sun 06-Apr-14 18:38:10

Couch Potato outfit, phoenix - it's the only thing I'm any good at! wink

ffinnochio Sun 06-Apr-14 18:29:48

Ana Sun 06-Apr-14 17:07:14

Anne58 Sun 06-Apr-14 16:59:22

Anne58 Sun 06-Apr-14 16:58:39
