I have tried resizing, uploading from other places, all sorts, to no avail. I have tried starting new threads in the picture site. Nothing works. sad

jane when ever I have any problem at all with using the laptop, uploading etc I just ask the, how to question on Google, usually you will find the answer.

But it used to work. I can do it elsewhere on other sites, just not on here. I have seen that other people had problems too. I just wondered if it was a GN problem, or my computer's problem.

Hi jane - it appears we have had a couple of problems with uploading from tablets lately, but the picture uploading facility should still be working from other devices still. Which devices have you tried so far?

Aka Fri 22-Aug-14 13:02:32

I've given up on this after trying time after time. So will stay black. GN is not iPad friendly in this respect.

I tried it this morning from a computer, and it worked, but it means that I have to keep transferring photos from one device to another. I bet that's why not many people post photos, they give up.

I've had problems in the past trying to upload photo's from a laptop. If the picture is just too big or the wrong size it doesn't tell you, just sits there for hours saying its uploading but never does. It would be helpful if we knew the maximum file size but I've found, certainly on the local sites if you're putting pictures on a listing that the dimensions of the picture have to be right too. Again it doesn't tell you what is wrong with the pic, you have to guess sad With tablets it could be that the tablet is trying to upload a portrait sized picture sideways and that it's coming out too wide so won't upload. Just a thought.

GNHQ!
I told you it wasn't just me!

I have given up trying to send in my dog biscuit photo as I am using a tablet and I think the file is too big. I don't know how to resize it and it would be a FAFF to transfer it to PC and resize.

upsydaisy, this is the Pictures Forum heading:

Note: This topic allows you to post a picture with your message using the Browse button under the Add Message box. You can only post one pic per message - and it will always appear above the text of your message, whichever order you browse/type in. If your pic doesn't appear to have loaded, refresh the page (they can be slow to appear). If it doesn't load at all, try making it smaller (50KB max).

JulieGransnet (GNHQ) Fri 22-Aug-14 22:42:33

confused Are you trying to upload a picture onto your profile, or onto a thread?

Galen Fri 22-Aug-14 23:25:15

I'm having probs with both! Every time I try to upload a profile pic! It deletes the other!

Galen Fri 22-Aug-14 23:26:40

Hang on Julie! We have no possibility to upload pics on this thread!

JulieGransnet (GNHQ) Fri 22-Aug-14 23:38:42

Ok, we'll see if we can get this sorted. It would help if we knew what browser and which version you're using, like Windows 8 or Safari? Have you tried using another browser to see if this is the same?

Galen Fri 22-Aug-14 23:47:07

I give up! I 70 in a couple of months!
This thread had no option to upload photos!

Galen Fri 22-Aug-14 23:49:41

Think I'll resign from GN!
Not granny iPad friendly!
Goodnight!

tcherry that's very helpful, I would never have thought of that. hmm

I've been using photographic sites and resizing photos and altering them and stuff for years, I was trying to be polite really - it just doesn't work very well at all on this site! I couldn't even upload a link from photobucket. I was starting a new thread. I finally managed to upload a much-reduced in size file on the Thought for Today thread, just as a practice run really. But I had tried to post photos on at least ten occasions prior to that, on the garden photos thread.

upsydaisy Thu 28-Aug-14 19:29:53

Yesterday I managed to upload a photo to a forum post, one that you can share pictures on. Today it won't let me do it at all. I have spent a good hour or more faffing about reducing the size etc. I do find this website so frustrating when it comes to photographs, it doesn't tell you anything. Just sits there looking at you angry I give up. A few weeks ago I learned my lesson that if you write something that goes with the photo, you do actually lose everything you've written when the photo won't post, so be aware of that and copy and paste your written stuff somewhere before you try previewing.

I'm using a laptop running Windows 7 and using the Chrome browser and have shrunk my photo's to below 1MB but they still won't go on.

janerowena Thu 28-Aug-14 21:20:12

It seems that on same days it will work, but not on others and I can't figure out what could be going on, it needs the IT lot to try posting one every day for a while I think. Of differing size files.

janerowena Fri 29-Aug-14 16:27:56

So I have tried different sizes of files, and the reality is that all we can post now is stuff that has been copied from the internet and saved to our computers, everything we take of our own is too big. even 50 is overoptimistic, which is ridiculous. I can understand not being able to use my rather pixel- intensive camera, but people should surely be able to post using photos from their phones - which I can't without resizing on this board. Trying to use resizing techniques on anyone's phone is going to be a nightmare and no-one will bother.

What I don't understand is - how come it used to work, but now doesn't? IT dept. must have changed something.

Galen Fri 29-Aug-14 17:12:43

Or apple have?
I've given up

Nytsom Fri 29-Aug-14 17:45:03

GN doesn't pick up a photo host; Photobucket or FlickR. On the I-Pad! But will allow you to take a photo to upload or select one from your Photostream or album on your I-Pad.
Test photo from FlickR :
