I think we've had a discussion about this before, in the light of there having been a time when anyone who wished to, could change their names willy-nilly.
So ... given that things have changed since I signed up, which means that I'm now registered under T & C' s that I didn't sign up to, I'll have to have a think.
I got 'busted' when someone recognised me by certain details I gave in a post. I did change my name, though I think I was still recognisable. I am a little more careful now, but some things are likely to leak out, especially if one has been around the block - not saying that I have, of course.
You can subtly change the facts when you describe things, soon, so that it wouldn't be obvious to someone who knows you that they are reading your posts. If you have another email address you could just join as a new member, using that email, and then you could post as both soontobe and dontknowwhoiam all the while altering the details in your posts. Then your disguise would be complete.
But jingl no one had the slightest problem in recognising your new incarnations each of the many times you changed your name. Other Gransnetters with distinctive writing styles or particular obsessions interests about which they often posted were/are immediately recognisable under new names. soontobe will be obvious even she calls herself neverwas.
soon. Try this. Click on My Gransnet in the green line thing up the top. Then click on 'preferences'. At the bottom of the page you will see 'delete my registration'. Click on that. Then join again as a different person. You could be 'Iamnow'. See? 'Soontobe' - 'Iamnow'.
Go on give it a try. I dare you. If you are not back in an hour, under new name, we will all contact GNHQ en masse to protest.
It's probably a good idea to bear in mind that anything put on the internet is potentially available to anyone, even if it is protected by passwords. That's why I never post about how difficult it is to clean a crown or how sore it is when one's horse stands on one's foot. Ooops, what a give-away!
