Can we please have a back of hand across brow emoti, for use when threads are getting just too much for the more tender amongst us to bear?

Thank you. smile

What are the rules?

When writing your messages, please use the same courtesy you'd show when speaking face-to-face with someone.

Our policy is to keep intervention to a minimum (we don't have formal moderators) and let the conversation flow. Having said that, we will remove postings that are obscene, contain personal attacks or break the law. For more on this, see our Netiquette page.

Who goes f'ing and blinding when talking to people face to face? I don't- and don't really want to 'talk' to people who think that it is ok- I find it a bit tragic if people think it is acceptable in every day conversation. My problem, you'd say- and fair enough.

But personal attacks, included those with swearing I'd imagine- are clearly against the rules. Most people here try very hard to agree to disagree in a fair and polite manner- shame a tiny % do not, again and again.

Swearing per se, and swearing as part of a personal insult. 2 very different things, no?

Ana Sun 29-Mar-15 15:27:08

(My post was to granjura)

Ana Sun 29-Mar-15 15:25:58

Swearing isn't against GN rules. I don't do it myself, but I'm a bit surprised that someone who has reached our age is offended or upset by the odd Anglo Saxon epithet.

loopylou Sun 29-Mar-15 15:15:34

you're past it perhaps, I'm not

Offensive to me

granjura Sun 29-Mar-15 15:00:16

Perhaps we could have one to signify a tight ilittle arsehole, as some posters seem determined to talk out of theirs.

I cannot understand, for the life of me, why GN allows 'f'ing and blinding and personal and general attacks of this kind. Why oh why?

I know we are not in Church jingl- but this is a 'public society' and this kind of language and attacks just should not be allowed. If GN refuse to deal with this- then I think many more will leave- as it is just not acceptable.
Disagree, even totally, discuss, debate, whatever- but no need for this 'fish wives' or even 'roast chicken' kind of 'discussion' sorry. Won't bother with an emoticon.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 29-Mar-15 14:34:32

Oh yes!

We're past that now loopy. grin

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 29-Mar-15 14:32:36

loopylou Sun 29-Mar-15 13:57:02

This thread, in places, is offensive to me, particularly as initiated after one of my posts sad

annodomini Sun 29-Mar-15 13:36:16

What about a double take emoticon. I might be able to put in a word grin

Jane10 Sat 28-Mar-15 13:44:08

Could I request a raspberry emoticon? It would save my PC and mobile screens if I could click on it rather than produce the real thing so often!

dustyangel Sat 28-Mar-15 11:35:20

Thankyou everyone, your varying comments have had me laughing aloud.grin

GrannyTwice Sat 28-Mar-15 11:14:00

Yes Ana - I'm often insufferably smug and would love a smug face emoticon so I could signal my total self awareness of this not very endearing trait
grin
