Are we or are we not allowed to post on what we want as long as we stay within the guidelines? Or, now that the election is over, should we stop using the politics board? I'm very confused. Do the guidelines say anything about political discussion spoiling GN? Please advise

" I was talking about the headings when you look on the Active page, which is what I do, Ash Tree. They're not blue. "
Really? They are on my laptop. They're blue hyperlinks, i.e. clickable links, just as on the main forum page confused. (I too always use the Active page to find threads).

Or core even

This is simple. If you don't like a particular thread don't read it or post on it. No response no thread.

What part of that do people not understand?

In general, political discussion has mainly been kept to the politics board. However, many threads morph and it's hardly as though it's hard score porn acts that are being described is it? Some posters took politics into SK so can hardly complain if there is a riposte can they? My main issue was the posts that basically told us to stop political discussion and get over it so why don't we agree that political discussion is a perfectly legitimate GN activity in which you join or not but you don't keep saying it shouldn't happen?

To answer the original question...the politics topic is still very much open to use - we don't restrict it to election time grin. Although it does make sense to us to keep political discussions within the politics topic.

p.s. loopylou as long as a biscuit passes the taste test (does it definitely taste stale, or is it just a hint?) I reckon it's fair game...

Unemployed people have to apply for a certain number of jobs. Obviously they would apply for those jobs with the highest wages if the alternative was JSA or whatever it is now in their particular area.
If employers offered higher wages, there would be more jobs they could apply for and still support their families.
If you do not know anyone in this situation, you are lucky.

Ana Thu 14-May-15 22:15:39

Are you saying that UK unemployed don't 'feel like' applying for jobs because the wages aren't high enough, durhamjen?

If that's so, obviously the benefits they're being paid for not 'feeling like' applying for work are far too generous! confused

durhamjen Thu 14-May-15 22:08:06

Sorry, the need, I meant.

durhamjen Thu 14-May-15 22:07:39

If employers offered higher wages, soon, UK unemployed might feel more like applying for those jobs, thereby eliminating the ned for migrant workers.
Many migrant workers are overeducated for the work they are given.

The number does have the effect of what employers do. In most cases.

Ana Thu 14-May-15 22:00:41

I was talking about the headings when you look on the Active page, which is what I do, Ash Tree. They're not blue.

durhamjen Thu 14-May-15 21:50:38

Terribull, EU migrants do not hold down wages. Employers do.

Anne58 Thu 14-May-15 21:48:24

As old as my nose and a little bit older than my teeth.

HTH

AshTree Thu 14-May-15 21:48:11

Ana all the forum titles are clickable links, which is why I called it a hyperlink. That's the term I always used at work when compiling a document with chapter headings that people could click on and it took them straight to that chapter. The chapter headings always turned blue when they were converted to a clickable link (hyperlink).

Ana Thu 14-May-15 21:43:42

And what does 'Told you!' mean? confused Honestly, how old are some of you?

Ana Thu 14-May-15 21:41:39

Just checked. Nope - people are just saying that political posts should be kept to political threads.

Ana Thu 14-May-15 21:39:03

As far as I can see, durhamjen, no one has suggested that this particular thread should not be posted on. Please tell me if I am wrong...

thatbags Thu 14-May-15 21:35:56

I think that if someone thinks another post is a whinging post they should be able to say so. They should probably expect someone else's post to, er, whinge about being told their posts are whingey though.

Ad nauseam.

And so to bed moon

durhamjen Thu 14-May-15 21:32:44

Told you!

Ana Thu 14-May-15 21:30:15

Of course, I know that's impossible for some of you to do.

Oh, the irony! grin

Ana Thu 14-May-15 21:26:18

Yes, it was more a shock, horror, nearly choked on my biscuit kind of thing, wasn't it durhamjen?

I must admit I felt sorry for you, and swore I would never agree with you again! smile

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 14-May-15 21:25:55

Not even to talk biscuits

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 14-May-15 21:25:22

I just popped that on so that you would know.

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 14-May-15 21:25:02

I won't post on it anymore.

durhamjen Thu 14-May-15 21:23:54

If you do not want this thread to go any further, do not post on it. Same for any other thread that you say should be closed. The simplest thing to do is not post.
Of course, I know that's impossible for some of you to do.
