Ooh are you trying to get me banned!!! I can only say it concerned 2 celebrities, one no longer with us,the other incarcerated. I proposed the latter as a minister with responsibility for looking after an area of the population he is now considered totally inappropriate for, and added it was a pity the other wasn't available. Of course 10 or 15 years ago both might actually have been given such a job!

Oh, go on, tell us it again grin

Soutra I have no objection to you having delicate sensibilities and if there was a warning system you could stay away from things that upset you. What I don't understand is why your feelings should stand in the way of what was actually a real comment on society, the standards that we set, the way things have changed and the present government- all in a one line joke I quite liked!

Modern comedy uses a lot of jokes that are passed off as cutting edge but are actually just plain offensive.
Even with a warning, I'd be against having those sorts of jokes on Gransnet.
Can't comment on yours, tho, trisher.

But as I said bad taste and saying the unacceptable as a joke have always been part of political debate in the UK Why is Gransnet afraid of this?

Soutra Sat 16-May-15 10:56:19

If you admit it was a very bad taste joke perhaps you have answered your own question?

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 16-May-15 10:55:23

PM me and tell me what you said! smile

Gransnet mods will have their reasons.I didn't see the post so don't know what the 'joke' was about, but maybe they thought there has been enough of this sort of thing on the political threads already, or that what you posted was libellous.

I recently had a post deleted because it contravened the guidelines, it wasn't obscene, racist or a personal attack. It was a very bad taste joke the subject of which doesn't really matter. There is in British politics a long history of using satire and bad taste to highlight problems and I wonder why Gransnet feel this is unsuitable for the forums? I certainly would make the joke I made on here to my friends. It was posted on a thread with a warning about bad language so not for the fainthearted. Presumably Jonthan Swift's "A Modest Proposal" where he proposes that the Irish should eat their children as a solution to famine would be regarded as unacceptable and deleted. Come on Gransnet, either set up a warning system and make some posts more appropriate to thinking adults, or just accept the satire part of political debate, but please stop acting like Nanny, we are grown ups!
