As so many people now access the site on a phone or tablet, and to keep up with the modern world grin we're making Gransnet all lovely and mobile friendly. It will mean a few tweaks, as you can imagine, but we hope to bring you a test version very soon so that you can tell us what you like, what you like a bit less, and what you love (of course) - and this will all help us make the end version as fantastic as possible.

Now as part of this we're looking to streamline our forum topics a little - mainly to avoid people having to scroll for several days to find what they want grin

We are NOT getting rid of anything (and we are not getting rid of any threads!) but we are looking at merging a few topics and amalgamating a few that get less traffic into other areas. All to make it easier for use of course - but if you have strong feelings about anything now's the time to let us know.

Here's the new list as it stands.

Now over to you!

Taken aback when I logged on and found I'd no history of anything. Opted to go to desktop!

Maggiemaybe Wed 10-Jun-15 20:06:52

I'm reserving my judgement too. Apparently I haven't posted on any thread yet, nor am I watching any threads. So I've lost all my Gransnet history. I do hope this is going to be sorted out and I hope 'last hour' and 'last day' are being reinstated. If not, it's a resounding no from me. sad

Pittcity Wed 10-Jun-15 19:11:50

Oops, if have found out how to do it. Takes more clicks than before but it works! The emojis are much easier grin

Pittcity Wed 10-Jun-15 19:07:51

I miss the bookmark to save where I am up to on a long thread.

grumppa Wed 10-Jun-15 17:44:22

I too shall miss Last Hour; it's what I go to first. Mind you, DW never uses it.

shysal Wed 10-Jun-15 17:32:58

My watching list has been emptied - twice! And what has happened to 'last hour' and 'last day'. I use those all the time!

ninathenana Wed 10-Jun-15 17:32:08

Hmmm, At the moment I'm reserving judgement. I'm sure I'll love it when used to it.

Lona Wed 10-Jun-15 17:08:02

Thanks pittcity, found it now..

Pittcity Wed 10-Jun-15 16:40:10

Lona you can switch between views using the link that is right at the bottom of the page.

Lona Wed 10-Jun-15 16:15:33

My tablet has gone back to the old style now.

kittylester Wed 10-Jun-15 16:14:45

I was being dim - I've found it!

kittylester Wed 10-Jun-15 16:13:06

Ok, I'm pretty certain that I am being dim here (don't all agree!) but how do I start a new thread? confused

Lona Wed 10-Jun-15 15:36:54

Can we post photos on any thread now? I notice the thread about school shoes (yawn) starts with a pic!

Grannyknot Wed 10-Jun-15 15:06:29

Hee! I am in shock.

kittylester Wed 10-Jun-15 15:04:55

I like it but I would also like to be able to see who the last post is by - and the first (in an ideal world!)grin

hildajenniJ Wed 10-Jun-15 14:04:12

Oh yes, I like it! Very easy to navigate. I can't wait to update my profile page, and see how it looks. smile

Pittcity Wed 10-Jun-15 12:14:23

First impression is that it looks good. Will take a bit of getting used to.
Looking forward to the finished article.

One thing I noticed, with my local editor hat on, is that there needs to be a link to finding your Gransnet Local pages on the landing page when you click on the Local button.

grumppa Wed 10-Jun-15 12:06:44

Very elegant!

Pittcity Wed 10-Jun-15 11:57:55

Ooh it has all changed in the last few minutes and looking very snazzy. Will have a play around!smile

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Wed 10-Jun-15 11:38:53

(Oh and Soutra very good point - we will have a Care and carers topic on the forums and we will still have a health area on the nav bar - but again, if there are things you would specifically like to see site or content wise do let us know)

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Wed 10-Jun-15 11:37:59

So...very shortly we will be releasing the test version of the mobile site which you will be able to access via tablet or smartphone. Now do bear in mind this is the first stage of a long process - changes to the nav bar and the forums (outlined above) will follow in the next few days.

There are lots of other things to tweak and work on in order to get everything fully functioning so do bear with us while we roll everything out gradually. It is a work in progress - and your thoughts much appreciated. <curses fact we don't have an excited emoticon>

Soutra Tue 09-Jun-15 09:16:24

Perhaps this is covered by 'Health' but how about disability (thinking both of this with mobility issues and those who care for partners/parents with them)?

Galen Fri 05-Jun-15 17:51:33

Sounds good

MrsJamJam Fri 05-Jun-15 17:11:44

I always use my android tablet for gransnet so a mobile app instead of having to go through a browser would be good. List of topics looks comprehensive to me and will still allow for random chat!

AshTree Fri 05-Jun-15 13:49:37

Looks fine to me. Good idea to combine similar subjects and you seem to have done that well. I don't use my iPhone much for GN, but I do use the iPad when I'm in bed. This looks an improvement to me smile
