As so many people now access the site on a phone or tablet, and to keep up with the modern world grin we're making Gransnet all lovely and mobile friendly. It will mean a few tweaks, as you can imagine, but we hope to bring you a test version very soon so that you can tell us what you like, what you like a bit less, and what you love (of course) - and this will all help us make the end version as fantastic as possible.

Now as part of this we're looking to streamline our forum topics a little - mainly to avoid people having to scroll for several days to find what they want grin

We are NOT getting rid of anything (and we are not getting rid of any threads!) but we are looking at merging a few topics and amalgamating a few that get less traffic into other areas. All to make it easier for use of course - but if you have strong feelings about anything now's the time to let us know.

Here's the new list as it stands.

Yay! That sound great, I'll look forward to using the mobile site. smile

Ana Wed 03-Jun-15 18:42:14

It's certainly a much tidier list! Glad to see that 'Youth' has gone, as I never did see the point of it.

newist Wed 03-Jun-15 18:46:27

Thats good, because I use my android more than my computer now

tanith Wed 03-Jun-15 19:28:59

That looks fine by me too..

harrigran Wed 03-Jun-15 19:34:09

Bah, I only have an old steam powered phone and can't use it for GN.

glassortwo Wed 03-Jun-15 19:48:39

Oh great look forward to that. List looks fine to me.

hildajenniJ Wed 03-Jun-15 20:07:08

This looks good. I use my tablet far more than the computer. Thanks.

Grannyknot Thu 04-Jun-15 07:38:06

Looks good. I already find GN works fine on my tablet, so new, improved should be even better smile

Brendawymms Thu 04-Jun-15 08:08:33

Will there be an App? Perhaps there already is and I haven't found it. I have the logo on my home screen rather than an App.

mcem Thu 04-Jun-15 08:09:59

Looks fine. I only ever use my tablet for GN. Have found in the past that I don't always like updates (eg bbc radio app) but fingers crossed that this goes well.

Nelliemoser Thu 04-Jun-15 08:20:01

Fliiping heck I spend quite enough time as it is on GN and now you are making it possible for me to spend even more. wink

It would be a good idea particularly for my phone.

I see that the recently-requested Philosophy category may go. I have never used it myself, but shall be interested to see if there are any comments. TBH, it is easy to choose 'other subjects' if in doubt. Hope all goes smoothly for you at GNHQ.flowers cupcake

LucyGransnet (GNHQ) Thu 04-Jun-15 09:19:28

Brendawymms - no app just yet, but at some point there will be!

Teetime Thu 04-Jun-15 09:26:55

Seems fine - I wouldn't use it on my mobile - just the lap top.

Marelli Thu 04-Jun-15 20:21:29

Looks good to me! I use my phone to access GN during the night when I'm not sleeping (and also before I sleep, and when I wake up....do I have a problem, do you think?) grin

janeainsworth Fri 05-Jun-15 02:16:30

Definitely Marelli smile
The list looks good to me - I use my mobile a lot to go on GN so will look forward to the new version.
Can you do anything about the mobile editing stuff all by itself and writing really stupid things???

AshTree Fri 05-Jun-15 13:49:37

Looks fine to me. Good idea to combine similar subjects and you seem to have done that well. I don't use my iPhone much for GN, but I do use the iPad when I'm in bed. This looks an improvement to me smile

MrsJamJam Fri 05-Jun-15 17:11:44

I always use my android tablet for gransnet so a mobile app instead of having to go through a browser would be good. List of topics looks comprehensive to me and will still allow for random chat!

Galen Fri 05-Jun-15 17:51:33

Sounds good

Soutra Tue 09-Jun-15 09:16:24

Perhaps this is covered by 'Health' but how about disability (thinking both of this with mobility issues and those who care for partners/parents with them)?

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Wed 10-Jun-15 11:37:59

So...very shortly we will be releasing the test version of the mobile site which you will be able to access via tablet or smartphone. Now do bear in mind this is the first stage of a long process - changes to the nav bar and the forums (outlined above) will follow in the next few days.

There are lots of other things to tweak and work on in order to get everything fully functioning so do bear with us while we roll everything out gradually. It is a work in progress - and your thoughts much appreciated. <curses fact we don't have an excited emoticon>

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Wed 10-Jun-15 11:38:53

(Oh and Soutra very good point - we will have a Care and carers topic on the forums and we will still have a health area on the nav bar - but again, if there are things you would specifically like to see site or content wise do let us know)

Pittcity Wed 10-Jun-15 11:57:55

Ooh it has all changed in the last few minutes and looking very snazzy. Will have a play around!smile

grumppa Wed 10-Jun-15 12:06:44

Very elegant!
