Huge egos at GNHQ

Why do they think our posts on here are so all-important to us that they have to contact us before deleting one, to give us a chance to "withdraw the post" of our own volition. confused It's a website. On the Internet. It's not holy.

And while I'm on the subject, I'm 73 FGS! I do not appreciate young whippersnappers, even if they do call themselves 'GNHQ' talking down to me as if I am a naughty schoolgirl. hmm

Or somebody who reports regularly as a matter of course.

Luckygirl Mon 10-Aug-15 14:05:12

They do their best at GNHQ and on the whole I think they get it right. They cannot please all of the people all of the time. If someone reported one of jingl's posts it is likely to have been someone who has not become hardened to these posts and let them wash by her.

There is a lot of fine judgment needed in deciding whether a post is as dreadful as the reporting poster thinks it is, and their emails to deleted posters have to be masterpieces of diplomacy. They don't always make decisions that everyone agrees with, or tailor the message accurately to the recipient. I wouldn't like the job, to be honest.

I agree Elegran I have been impressed by how quick threads I've reported have been deleted. Often within 15 mins.
It's only ever been spam, never a regular GN member.

Elegran Mon 10-Aug-15 11:21:41

GNHQ have several different people on duty at different times to monitor and moderate the site. Some are quicker to delete than others.

whitewave Mon 10-Aug-15 11:04:08

GNHQ sound a bit like the 101 line - not really sure what one should panic about so sends everyone to A&E - GNHQ takes a similar approach by zapping everything Maybe as they mature? wink and get ancient like us they will be more laid back

NFK I got told off good and proper when I affectionately mentionned here we were hosting the village 'old biddies' for lunch, I call myself an old biddie (and most of them are 10 to 20 years older- and lovely too)- DD2 calls me the 'fossil' - it's all the attitude, really, not about words.

Aside, musicians, a 3rd one was a surprise- arrived at midnight after 14 hrs driving in the rain- the roastchicken was a bit overcooked- but they tucked in with gusto. One is playing the piano now, and the violinist and the HANG player still fast asleep- bless.

merlotgran Mon 10-Aug-15 10:09:39

Oh. Silly me. I've been looking for a thread about Streetlife. confused

Monday morning, not quite with it syndrome.

Ana Mon 10-Aug-15 10:04:49

No, nfk's post was deleted on Streetlife, not on this site!

thatbags Mon 10-Aug-15 09:14:57

Blimey again, nfk! How ridiculous of HQ! Touchy nonsense.

Jane10 Mon 10-Aug-15 08:08:01

Blimey NFK I'm with you on that one! Very impressed at Soontobe actually reporting herself!

NfkDumpling Mon 10-Aug-15 08:00:15

I referred to cyclists as Lycra Louts Ana! My hairdresser is one and refers to himself as such. A bit like me calling myself a Wrinkly. It wasn't done in a malicious way at all and was obviously tongue in check - I thought!

ginny Mon 10-Aug-15 07:10:41

I don't image someone is sitting reading the posts 24/7. Therefore if no one reports them they will stay.

soontobe Mon 10-Aug-15 06:06:49

So far I have had two deleted.
In the first, I repeated what another poster had said about herself, which then got deleted.
And the second, I reported myself as I was unsure if it broke guidelines or not. But they deleted my next post[havent a clue what was in it] and not the one I meant which I presume now didnt break guidelines anyway [they did tell me that next time to use the report button to report myself so that they would know which post I meant].

Ana Sun 09-Aug-15 22:51:04

Sometimes they don't delete the posts where someone's repeated what was said in the offending one - so it's a bit of a hit and miss procedure.

Elegran Sun 09-Aug-15 22:46:13

That's the trouble, once a post is deleted you can't tell whether it was horrendously libellous or just a bit too tetchy - even if it was one of yours.

Ana Sun 09-Aug-15 22:44:58

Nooo...that's far worse, NfkDumpling! Whatever did you say? shock

NfkDumpling Sun 09-Aug-15 22:43:18

I've had a post deleted on Streetlife. Does that count? Can I join the club?

Maggiemaybe Sun 09-Aug-15 22:35:13

I had a post deleted by GNHQ once, but didn't get an email. I only noticed a few days later and by then I hadn't a clue what I'd said. grin

Sewsilver Sun 09-Aug-15 21:45:23

Oh no jingle please don't become bland. There is quite enough of that in the world already.

granjura Sun 09-Aug-15 21:42:44

Yep, poor things- 14 hours of driving in the rain- should be here soon. Dinner is ready and a nice bottle of red- leave you to it and here it is again roastchicken

Ana Sun 09-Aug-15 20:52:23

Well, she's used it more than once today - must do a lot of cooking!
Oh, it's probably for those drum visitors, I forgot they were coming.

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 09-Aug-15 20:50:33

gj is off to cook her dinner. Nice to see it being used.

Ana Sun 09-Aug-15 20:49:16

Yes, and very useless not-much-used it turned out to be!

I'm not sure what it signifies to granjura!

jinglbellsfrocks Sun 09-Aug-15 20:45:45

I got that roast chicken emoti on here. smile
