Hi Bez, yes we do post links to particularly interesting threads on social media once in a while - we are a social media site and depend on attracting more and more visitors so that we can keep the site going and continue to try and improve it.

Please remember that Gransnet is an open forum and anyone can view the threads on here - they don't need to be a member. We don't include any usernames on the Facebook posts, but rather just link to the discussion, usually with an illustrative quote and image to explain what the thread is about. This is something we, along with Mumsnet, have always done.

Gransnet posts will only appear in someone's newsfeed if they have specifically 'liked' our page, though anyone can go in search of us on Facebook.

Yes but even if you are not on their Facebook page will it make it stop on other threads - I think it unlikely - everyone else will still see it all.

I have asked them to move the thread to Site stuff as Elegran suggested - maybe they will look at it then.

I 'liked' Gransnet and it came up on Facebook - I shall go and 'unlike' it now I don't really want them to overlap.

Actually that's really annoying. I've never had anything to do with GN's facebook page and now my caravan thread is on there!

I specifically keep my facebook usage at a very low level.

bez please ask GNHQ to investigate. I think you can report this whole thread and click on "Other" and explain.

Oh no! I specifically don't use facebook gransnet because this is my real name!

Bez Tue 18-Aug-15 14:11:19

I wondered if many people knew about it - I was horrified to see the whole thread.

Kitty at some point I 'liked' Gransnet and it comes up in my feed - I see all my other groups and friends on the same thread.

I get Gnet posts on my timeline too. I haven't actually looked at them as I am on Gransnet regularly. I will "click on" it next time I see one and find out what is going on. If I think that what is on there is inappropriate, I will definitely report it to GNHQ.

Am I able to move it over ? I looked through and couldn't see that heading - obviously looked in the wrong place!!

Elegran Tue 18-Aug-15 13:59:33

Put this on "site stuff" , Bez It is something that needs to be addressed at site level.

I use Facebook Bez but not the GN one. I was concerned that they would link up so decided against it. No GN posts have come up on my own FB page. I'm confused now!

Today while scrolling down though the new posts on my thread the Gransnet one came up - I usually just glance at that and have not looked at the whole post in detail for a long time. The whole of the thread about DNA came up which surprised me and then I looked further and found the whole discussion about caravan parks was there too. - I did not look any further.
I do not think that this is what posters expect - some of the things people put on their posts can make them identifiable by people who know them and while appreciating that anything you write on line is not 'safe' I did not expect to see this when Facebook is a totally different place to a site such as here.
I realise many of you may well be aware of this but people who do not use Facebook will not.
