Gransnet keeping information

I am beginning to see and wonder if gransnet need to keep everyones' posts accessible and on view, since the site started.

Is there a point to that at all?

I can see that a lot of gransnetters see gransnet as somewhat of a private chat forum. Obviously it is far from that, but, especially as the search forum is so lame, is there any reason to keeping posters' posts available from back to 2011?

I can sort of see the point as regards the Health topic. But not much else.

Dossier does sound very MI5 though. Ve have vays of making you post . . .

soontobe Sun 13-Dec-15 21:22:15

annsixty. I remember yours, because you looked exactly like I thought you would look like.
I can remember virtually all of them, without having to see any of them ever again. I didnt realise I was that unusual.

Still think it is time for all forums not to keep open records going back years. In this day and age, I cant see that tradition being kept going for much longer.

What is a dossier? - a posh tramp smile

I began to read this thread. I got to where soon said nobody had answered the question and thought: "Question? What question?" So I went back and looked.

Has it ever occurred to you, soon, that no-one knows the answer to your question? A question like "Is there a point to that at all?" is quite difficult to answer at the best of times. Here's my reply, which I doubt you will find adequate: Why does there have to be a point? Can't we do pointless things?

I've noticed, at least, I think I've noticed, that you have asked questions like that before. You know, rather pointless questions. Not complaining. Just saying.

Alea Sun 13-Dec-15 21:25:02

What, dare I say it, would you know about it?

Get over yourself.

Ana Sun 13-Dec-15 21:25:51

I don't think GNHQ needs your advice, soontobe.

Alea Sun 13-Dec-15 21:27:17

Sorry Laragransnet

I forgot [tongue in cheek] emoticon.

Unlike a certain poster, it was just a wind up. tchblush

LaraGransnet (GNHQ) Sun 13-Dec-15 21:30:31

Whew - I thought you might use that report button on me...

Elegran Sun 13-Dec-15 21:36:15

So we must have a better search engine so that soontobe we can check up on what posters have posted and whether they are posting the truth, but we mustn't have old posts on it in case anyone other than soontobe checks up on what posters have posted?

soontobe Sun 13-Dec-15 22:01:06

I switched it because of what happened throughout the day Elegran.

Posters appear to be very happy to have a search engine that doesnt really work, rather than a proper one. Seems strange to me, but whatever.

Then I realised that, as posters were posting that they wanted things withdrawn, that what was the point of a search engine in the first place.

But I am either in a minority of one, or ahead of my time. Or both. We shall see.

Elegran Sun 13-Dec-15 22:04:51

But they didn't say they wanted things withdrawn until you said that you were tracking them! You are chasing it round in circles, soon

soontobe Sun 13-Dec-15 22:10:25

I am not tracking them any more than you are Elegran I suspect!

And surely you remember threads like phoenix, and other recent ones, where other employees, ex lovers, ex husbands, and who knows who quite often cause big real life problems for posters?

Who cant name change, until big events like that happen?

Ana Sun 13-Dec-15 22:12:55

We've had numerous complaints about the awful search facility in the past. Must have missed your radar, soontobe!

as posters were posting that they wanted things withdrawn

When did that happen, soontobe? How many posters? I must have missed the throng of members rushing to have their 'things' withdrawn...

Alea Sun 13-Dec-15 22:15:48

How odd you should pick up on phoenix's thread hmm

BTW what in the name of Rudolph and all his reindeer happened to "not posting until after noon tomorrow"???

Even my NY resolutions last more than an hour or two!

Galen Sun 13-Dec-15 22:17:23

soon
Did you have previous identity as Cheelu? You are equally as annoying

Ana Sun 13-Dec-15 22:18:26

Blimey, never mind not posting - how many hours does soontobe spend lurking to know so much about everyone and imagine even more...?

Ana Sun 13-Dec-15 22:20:16

It does make you wonder, *Alea and Galen...hmm

annsixty Sun 13-Dec-15 22:20:19

soon should I be flattered or otherwise?

Galen Sun 13-Dec-15 22:35:18

Best to be flattered darling?

Bellanonna Sun 13-Dec-15 23:29:12

In this case I'd say otherwise ann

mumofmadboys Mon 14-Dec-15 00:03:36

Out of interest how do you ask for a comment to be removed?

Stansgran Mon 14-Dec-15 09:15:48

I think you report yourself to HQ

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 14-Dec-15 09:27:15

Stop being horrible to soon. Just stop. She's got a perfectly valid point.

I am quite often amazed at how some very old threads are re-incarnated. It can be quite disconcerting when you see yourself with a completely different version of your name! tchgrin

And you can often think, WhyTF did I say that?! tchgrin

I do sometimes think, "which bit of This Thread is Dormant, etc" do they not understand! tchhmm

petallus Mon 14-Dec-15 11:09:39

Yes, stop being horrible.
