Sorry rather late, I hope all England had a happy St. George's Day

The wild rose of old England. (never mind nasty dragons)

I have just been to a lovely classical concert with several pieces by English composers and the reading of a Shakespeare sonnet. We ended by singing Rule Britannia, four verses of it (I didn't know there were four verses). It was a super evening with wonderful singing but not many of us in the audience.

Apols - Here's the dragon

It's just that St George's Day has fallen on a Saturday and we're short staffed at the weekends (and actually, I'm not even working today, just stumbled upon this! <need a life> grin)

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 23-Apr-16 14:03:56

Are we supposed to be into DIY competitions now? hmm Things aint what they used to be.

Ana Sat 23-Apr-16 14:03:56

dragon

(if you can't wait that long!)

jinglbellsfrocks Sat 23-Apr-16 14:02:17

They (GNHQ) have obviously given up caring about us.

We will probably be given the usual dragon at about six o'oclock tonight. hmm

Good on Waitrose. Glad to hear that NanaandGrampy- but sadly, many would be embarrassed these days to put the flag at their window or in the garden- because so often those who do, do so in support of NF or EDL.

Perhaps there should be a big campaing for next year's St G's day to reclaim the flag for the people, of all political persuasions or none, all ethnicities, etc.

hildajenniJ Sat 23-Apr-16 13:55:56

I sang this song with a choir, as part of a school musical festival

hildajenniJ Sat 23-Apr-16 13:46:59

The Waitrose store where I work in the early, early morning, is having a St. George's day lunch for the staff. They have decked out the dining room with the Cross of St. George, large and small flags. Nothing at all to show that it is any other day in the store itself, I wonder why? here are some famous quotes that make me proud to be English.

NanaandGrampy Sat 23-Apr-16 13:40:46

Not for me it hasn't Granjura

granjura Sat 23-Apr-16 13:11:27

Very sad that the flag has become a symbol of the NF.

NanaandGrampy Sat 23-Apr-16 11:09:25

Good point.... that would be a nice gesture GNHQ .

harrigran Sat 23-Apr-16 11:09:05

Yes, shame on you. Why is St George's day ignored ?

Cherrytree59 Sat 23-Apr-16 11:07:08

Oops should read 'where is'

Cherrytree59 Sat 23-Apr-16 11:05:24

Where's the St george flag?
I'm a Scot with english family and friends
I want to wish Everybody a Happy George's Day!

I've seen daffodils, shamrocks and funny Scottish hats on GN.
So what about Englands National day ?
