I have to say that the best years of grannydom for me are happening right now because they're all teenagers, the eldest are at uni and it's all about LIFE and their take on it.

I have noticed quite a few posters who join and soon post a lot, and don't seem to have any problem getting their views across without stomping their feet and saying that it is a horrid site and no-one loves them. They don't appear to be curtseying as they post either.

Well... it is a bit parochial to a new poster. One has to nod and agree for three years at least, and have met for coffee until their point of view is backed up on Gransnet.

But I digress. Should Jings come back? She knows she can come back, she is watching every comment, and sadly I have to back off from a poster who is enjoying twists and turns, knowing the slack Internet allows her to come back and sup a bowl of soop.

You can't judge a post on its merits in isolation. Someone posting a really vicious post after a perfectly amicable discussion is obviously out of line. But if someone posts an explosion, bcause there have been a series of niggling swipes just before it that caused the blood to boil, that latest post on its own, without the previous provocation, will seem just as bad.

It has nothing to do with how long someone has been around. Long-standing posters can be resented for their cutting remarks or moaning whinges just as much as new posters, and most of the time most people can't tell one from the other anyway.

I like cake.

I think you may have misunderstood my post about relative post merits. For me what gives a post merit is stuff like sense, good humour, strength of debate, and so on. Who wrote it is of secondary importance.

Really? I hadn't noticed that.

But that is what a good and fair forum is about. This forum is going down the tubes due to the idea that those who have been here the longest carry the most weight.

I mean that it's very very easy to misjudge a post's merits, especially if one's a grumpy old complaining thingummyjig.

When whole threads get deleted on this very subject, the guidlines are pointless.

This thread touched on pearl clutchers, banned posters and threads that are as boring as "beige sitting rooms" (I made that up). No, I didn't.

I would ban the report button, but I would also avoid, and I mean AVOID posters and threads that others want to wag their fingers at.

Some of us were Hippies and "did stuff". Some of us have hidden tattoos, and some of us are new Grannies. Let's forget about time served and take every post on its merits.
