You warned me that the next time I was reported you would bar me. I have just had a post deleted.

Time to click?

Anya Fri 07-Oct-16 13:56:40

Anyway, to answer those who follow the principle in life that 'rules is rules' there is another principle at work here and that is the willingness to challenge rules and authority which is embedded in some of us.

If you are the kind of person who likes to follow and obey then that might seem odd, weird, even unfeminine.

But at least we have said what we feel and perhaps, if HQ reads the quote from the founder, they might just 'Listen to users and pivot if necessary....'

Anya Fri 07-Oct-16 13:47:18

Why does your iPad have failing vision?

Ana Fri 07-Oct-16 13:45:46

And what she said there is very apt. Pity she's long gone to pastures new as well...

Anya Fri 07-Oct-16 13:45:43

Sorry, my mistake, that was a quote from Justine (with an E) Roberts.

Now I'm cinfusing people.

merlotgran Fri 07-Oct-16 13:45:22

Justine Roberts is the founder of Mumsnet/Gransnet isn't she?

I think you should curtsey before you blaspheme, loopylou grin

Ana Fri 07-Oct-16 13:44:16

Think you mean Justine Roberts, Anya

(Founder of Mumsnet and Gransnet, for those who don't know)

loopylou Fri 07-Oct-16 13:44:04

I guess using an iPad with failing vision was always going to be a problem Anya......

merlotgran Fri 07-Oct-16 13:44:01

*Don't worry, loopylou. I'm sure they'll be along to delete it before long.

We're only allowed so much say.

loopylou Fri 07-Oct-16 13:42:32

Did someone speak? sounds somewhat rude?
And who the hell is Justin Roberts?

Anya Fri 07-Oct-16 13:42:18

Sorry to hear you're cinfused hope you get better soon.

loopylou Fri 07-Oct-16 13:40:25

[cinfused]
Anya rules are just that, rules. If you or others don't like or agree with them then perhaps GN isn't for you/them?
I presume that applies to virtually any forum, club or institution.
As I said before, GN are clearly damned if they do or damned if they don't according to many of the posts on here.
They can't 'win' either way and neither can or will posters on here apparently
It seems this is probably the most ridiculous thread ever in my opinion!

Anya Fri 07-Oct-16 13:37:05

Listen to users and pivot if necessary. Your first iteration may or may not be the real deal; as Mumsnet users always say about birth plans, ‘don’t get too attached’. The web means immediate and constant feedback; this can feel challenging (spot the euphemism) but try to see it as an amazing free focus group – so long as the people you’re listening to are your core audience

Guess who wrote that? Justin Roberts

Anya Fri 07-Oct-16 13:35:17

Did someone speak?

granjura Fri 07-Oct-16 13:34:06

That is silly Anya- most Internet are NOT for old ladies at all- they all have rules and regs- and most are much more heavy handed with moderation and would have locked this thread very quickly.

Most internet Forums are run as businesses, as a medium for advertising, etc, and not really for the benefit of the members, as such. Just like newspapers.

Wobblybits Fri 07-Oct-16 13:31:31

Nothing wrong with reporting your own post, I did it earlier today, because I wanted to make a suggestion about a thread, not going to report anyone else if there is no reason.

Anya Fri 07-Oct-16 13:30:39

Oh yes, let's all be good old women ladies and know our place hmm and abide by the 'rules' because we're old ladies and that what old ladies ought to do.

Ha ha!

Luckygirl Fri 07-Oct-16 13:18:16

Exactly we cannot judge as we do not know all that went on.

Missing the point Ana? - I'm not sure what you mean as none of us are obliged to be here - it is just statement of fact.

granjura Fri 07-Oct-16 13:12:21

Golly, only been aware of this thread since yesterday.

Agreed too J52. I got to know jingl and take everything she said with a pinch of salt and a smile- and there was no malice in her really. She often supported me in pms. Personally I think it is a shame she has been banned- but as we do not know what happened behind the scenes- how can we judge. If, for example, she told them to **** or words to that effect- what else could they do after several warnings.

J52 Fri 07-Oct-16 13:02:38

Well posted jollyg

Ana Fri 07-Oct-16 12:44:33

Well of course they can't disclose what went on between HQ and jingl herself, nor is anyone asking them to.

Saying 'you don't have to stay on here if you don't like it' is missing the point.

roastchicken

Luckygirl Fri 07-Oct-16 12:20:37

I am behind HQ here - I think they do a difficult job well. Banning a member is a last resort and I think we have to assume that they had good reason, but have the grace not to discuss this openly on the forum, or to disclose what went on behind the scenes, which is I am sure plenty.

If we find their actions heavy handed then we do not have to stay on here.

loopylou Fri 07-Oct-16 12:15:47

<shrug>
I guess there is another option, just stop being a GNer if it irritates you so much! I presume there's little point in staying on a forum that you feel isn't what it should be?

jollyg I wholeheartedly agree.

merlotgran Fri 07-Oct-16 12:06:31

Gransnet is no longer a level playing field.

Ana Fri 07-Oct-16 12:04:23

Ye, Anya, obviously the mere mention of 'cake' should be enough to deflect us from our purpose and send us rifling through our cupboards...grin

jollyg Fri 07-Oct-16 12:01:58

This thread is becoming farcical.

If you break the rules, you deserve admonishing .

If you bend them likewise, and try to taunt admin ditto.

As for reporting your own post, is that not rather juvenile.

To say as all do that things were different[ better] when Geraldine was in charge is irrelevant, 'cos she is not now here.

May sanity return, sorry I dont do smileys of any description
